Great guide, works well.
Captivate Glide stock rooted with all data still intact. This does not wipe or change the device in any way.

OP, It is important to add that the rom should be flashed in odin using the PDA feature as well. I was a little confused about which option to pick.

Yes. It should also include as step 1.0 flashing before anything the CWR so you can do a nandroid backup. It will save you a week of headaches if by any chance you manage to brick the i927.

If I have an ATT device, should I choose the ATT-based rom or am I free to choose the Rogers one?

I read that Rogers one allows more options (tethering as first).

Your preference. Both are capable of running any Glide ROM

Thank you..

now a bigger issue. After downloading all the necessary files and preparing to root, I got stuck at the beginning because I can't get into download mode!

I tried several times: with USB connection, without, with battery, without battery. I really don't know how to get into download mode.. yet it looks quite simple - just need to hold the volume up button and press the power button. But I can't, phone doesn't react (or simply boots normally, as I pressed the power button for more than 3 seconds). It doesn't even vibrate when it turns off.. it vibrates as soon as I give the command and the screen is still on to display "turning off", NOT after 5-10 seconds with black screen.

Odin can always recognize the device (<added> and <removed> correctly displayed as soon as I plug in or out the phone) but I think this is normal.

How can I get it through?
Other users experienced a similar issue but none of them dealt with a i927.

Just to be more precise:

I have a ATT unlocked captivate glide. I live in Europe.
Gingerbread is 2.3.6
Kernel is 2.6.36.6
Stock rom (naturally, I haven't even rooted)
Build is gingerbread.UCKL1
Phone has 1 day of life, I couldn't have time to mess up with something.

Could you help? Thank you!

Apparently I figured it out. Still I don't know how. My brother did it just trying once.
