AOKP- a mix with stock and constantly added useful features, that almost always are optional to use.

note that I heard about a problem with AOKP (something with the haptic feedback) and I prefer to stay away until they find a solution.

Started with aokp and Franco kernel and it was good and stable, no real complaints. Installed glados kernel to try it out and suffered some lag in a particular game I enjoy right now that went away when I flashed Franco again. Then tried out icsourcery and while it had some cool theming stuff it suffered from black text on dark grey backgrounds in many places which is simply unacceptable IMO. Now I'm on bamf paradigm with Franco kernel and couldn't be more satisfied with the stability and all around setup. Less options than aokp but has everything I need at the same time and just feels better to me, staying here for the foreseeable future.

I think it would be helpful to differentiate the desires of the user in terms of features. Some might judge a rom on the number of extra options and others on how slim it is. Some might judge on frequency of updates and the latest nightlies and others might want a great rom to keep for a long time without the constant wiping and setting up of a flash whore.....
I like plenty of options, but I don't want to lose the reliability and I don't want to have to mess around resetting all the time. To that end I've found Bigxies Apex rom to be pretty much perfect and I'm surprised more haven't mentioned it here. Its got great performance and battery life with the inbuilt lean kernel, its remained as slick as the day I installed it and I've not had a single FC in over 4 months use. I had several reboots on the standard rom in comparison so all those who tow the line about standard being best I'd recommend Apex. I find it interesting to read through the rom threads and see what the users are thinking and that should give people a good enough idea of what to expect.
I've tried a few other roms but have regretted it each time and gone back to Apex. I'm amazed at the AOKP love here - wasn't to impressed myself and I hate those sliders cluttering up the notification area ?!......

I was looking at aokp and franco to be the definitive choices but maybe not?

I found lean kernel to be better than Franco's kernel.

Revolution HD with franco's r157 kernel. I don't want 60 different mods, goofy boot screens or anything like that. Clean and simple ftw.
