could I just use the One Click root method for the EL26 that I used to first get root? I used the non data wiping version, could I use that, or would I have to use the data wiping version?

All u need to use is the kernel, you don't need the entire rom so use just regular Odin v1.85 and put the el26+CWM in the PDA slot and flash then when your phone reboots hold volume+ and power or pull the battery and hold volume+ and power when you turn the phone on, EL26 won't boot an ICS rom so it will just boot loop at the sgs screen. Or you can use Mobile Odin and flash the kernel from your phone, reboot to recovery is same volume+ and power when it reboots or pull battery and volume+ and power. Personally I use mobile Odin since it doesn't trigger the yellow triangle, however I have a copy of the kernel and Odin 1.85 on my PC in case I bootloop when I'm on ICS with no recovery. Triangle away takes care of the yellow triangle and flash counter from an ICS rom for when I use PC based Odin. You can use either the free version of mobile Odin that's here on xda or the paid version on the market, $5 is definitely a fair price for how versitile and convienent the app is. If you use the free version from xda make sure you grab a copy of the sph-d710 flash kernel from the thread where you get mobile Odin cuz it won't automatically download it like the paid version does. You can use the one click method as long as its the one with CWM and not a rogue repack but it's quicker easier and safer to use just the kernel+recovery tar file so you know you always have the right recovery. I just have a copy on my internal and external SD cards and a copy on each of my Computers just in case I have some kind of data corruption I always have a copy in an emergency
