Rooting gives you "administrator" access to your phone, allowing apps to alter the operating system in ways that are factory-prohibited. And yes, it does void the warranty, unless you can hide it from HTC

2)how does one root htc one x?
Check out the "AT&T One X Android Development" forum. There's lots of info there.

3)how can one activate google navigation in INDIA?
Can't help you with this one, maybe someone else can. In Canada/US, it "just works." It's quite possible that google hasn't enabled navigation in your country. Before Canada had it officially, there were ways to get the app working, but I can't recall what was done.

4)does activating google navigation with rooting/without leads to cancelling of warranty?
If you can make it work without rooting or unlocking your bootloader, it will not void your warranty.

I dunno, try it out!

There should be third-party apps in the Market. I'm happy with Google Navigation in Canada, so I haven't really looked too much, but there should be a TomTom app, among several others.

Am replying only the google navigation questions as the others are already answered.

1) Its possible to get google navigation both with rooting and without rooting.
2) The difference between navigation with rooting and without rooting is that in the former case(with rooting) you will be replacing the default google maps application on your phone with the modded version. So there will be only one google maps application on your phone and it will be integrated with all the other apps like Car mode etc.
The second option is to install this modded apk of google maps which will install as a separate app along side the default google maps that is shipped with the phone. So you will see two maps, two latitudes, two navigations and two places in your app drawer. This side app will not be integrated with other apps on your phone like car mode etc.

For more information read through the following thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1007132

The apks have been removed from here by google but here is the link to the
change epn version(non root)

http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...postcount=2412

For the root versions see this link

Please thank if you find this useful.
