Post Google Moving to Multiple Nexus Manufactures?

This is an interesting article (it's all speculation), on one direction Google might be taking with the Nexus line and Android in general. Essentially they are looking to have multiple manufactures make Nexus devices and then sell them through the Google play store, by passing the carriers. This approach is similar to what they are doing with the current Nexus.

If true Google is putting all the wireless carriers on notice that their business is about to get even more commoditized (good thing for consumers).

If this happens I see a big opening for Microsoft to come in and take market share away from Android. I say this because I think a big reason or Androids success is heavily subsidized phones, & carriers pushing it. If Google goes the N1 approach again I think carriers will start pushing Windows Phone aggressively. The general public know about Android but I don't think they have loyalty or wanting for it, like the iPhone.
