Are you creating a new apn then selecting it? Then run the tethering app.

No, I assumed that simply creating a new profile with the same APN wouldn't make much difference. Guess it does. Still can't figure out why though.

So now the question is do I use this trick for as long as it lasts, push tmo for the free hotspot addon, or push them for the 5GB + hotspot for $35 deal? I'm happiest with the second option since I only use about 500MB, but I can't see paying more than the next guy for the same thing.

Thanks for the workaround!

WARNING: This will break your MMS ability, although you fix the tether you will not be able to receive or send any MMS while using the non-defualt APN. We need to figure out what goes in the MMS proxy portion of it so when you create a new APN it does not break MMS.

damnit i quoted the wrong post..i was referring to the post saying to simply create a new apn named tether and entered these values. epc.tmobile.com and nothing else filled in this will break mms. using the wifi tether app and changing to ICS Generic and mms enable will work without breaking mms. I had used the previous method which did make my tether work but broke mms in and out bound because if you look at the default APN you can see the details for the mms, had to reset apn to default to allow my message to sync in/out. Hopefully im not speaking to generically but you could test it yourself by creating a new apn and send a test mms to your own phone number (naturally disabling any 3rd party app tether). My results can be repeated over and over the exact same.

My bad about the mis-quote.

Just a heads up, T-Mobile is cracking down and forwarding website to upsell page regardless of device. I've used my rooted One S and galaxy nexus(rooted) and both devices got the upsell page today, whereas yesterday I was able to tether without issue.

For those of you wondering where things go, the first two lines are all you fill in.

Name, and then APN.

Then save and select it (it should be the only one without a tiny lock icon, and it should have the blue dot next to it).

But how stable is the One S WiFi Tether?

I ask cause I use my phone as my PC's internet connection.
