DONATE TO ME
I'm a widget junkie i use lot of widgets and I never felt any difference in performance unless I use Live Wallpapers. It will be a little sluggish but you won't notice much difference. If you using other Launchers like Launcher Pro or ADW then you won't find much different. I'm taking about 5 screens of widgets.

Accross various Roms and kernels my arc handles a multitude of Widgets quite impressively. I typically have gmail, hotmail, a clock, extended controls, an animated speed dial app, pulse, weather, news all running and I don't experience any lag.

I do agree with the previous poster thatt live screens have a detrimental effect but hey if you want to have heaps of Widgets you don't need a live wallpapper you can't see do you.

Also with respect to loading applications I have never experienced anything beyond what would be considered normal load times. Add a slight overclock and you get basically no lag at all.

Until ICS update I had five screens full of widgets and LWP. No problems. Since I`ve updated my Arc (not S) with LT18i*562 I am experiencing a (very) little sluggyness (only) when I am using a LWP. Otherwise: smooooooth

Same here, running lots of widgets on 5 home screens, works fine.
Only widget that was giving lots of lag for me was the weatherbug widget.

I also stopped using live wallpaper a long time ago, waste of battery and resources
