If you have issues with MMS or missing some text and so on you can edit your Flex file. I did and found a vast improvement. Use caution when doing so.

so I flashed the ROM-now my sim card is not recognized and I have the most horrible of battery drains...30 minutes and 10-20%...

It seems to me that you just need the stock messenger installed.
Cook another one and add it in.
