Question [Q] Thoughts on HTC "App Associations" to avoid Patent issue

Friday folly: HTC changes U. S. Android phones to avoid injunction

I wondered about why they have "App Associations" and this does make sense legally.
Me, it's not a big deal (IMO: I think the patent is vague and over reaching, but I'm not a lawyer) and may be a clever way to avoid the issue.

Thoughts?

I'm on Scott's CleanROM 4.5 Standard (GREAT WORK by Scott!)

At first I didn't understand the reason for App Associations, but not I just have one question: how do the other manufacturers get away with it?

Apple has an issued patent and is using it to make money. That's how it's supposed to work. I find it hard to blame them for working the system.

If you have a complaint, it should be with the "intellectual property" system itself, which (for patents) makes it too easy to get patents for obvious ideas (and too expensive to legally challenge). For copyright, it makes the terms far longer than necessary to encourage creation.

The idea that they can patent something already being used elsewhere is pretty screwed up. That being said, this situation is still screwed up.

They are dirty, but what major company isn't? What's even worse is they have used some the companys they have sued for development in the iPhone relm. Now that they aren't the majority (but close), they are lashing out more than ever
