Give this a try...this worked for me Sunday afternoon after I had pulled my hair out in large chunks over Friday and Saturday.

If you don't get the three icons when booting into bootloader you are not unlocked...those three being "Wipe Data", "USB", and "Android". Using the modded ViperMod tool (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...1626190&page=6

Unroot the Prime (Option #5)

If you have already downgraded to .15 great. If you have not do so now. (Option #1)

After the downgrade has completed, on your Prime go to "Settings" then go to "Backup & Reset" then a "Factory Data Reset". (Warning: All data will be erased).

After the reset has completed, go back through the ViperMod tool...first root (Option #2), then install unlock tool and flash CWM (Option #6) If you have done it correctly the Asus Unlock Tool will show up in your app drawer. Then install CWM.

You should now be ready to flash your custom ROM.

Hope this helps.

This seems to work for me but I want to make sure I actually have this thing unlocked correctly. I followed these steps and ran the unlocker and it seemed to run without error but I see no visual indicator anywhere that it was actually unlocked and I am nervous to actually try and flash something without making sure that it's unlocked. The unlocker app is the app list btw but there's not other indicator that it's unlocked. I called Asus and they basically told me they don't support the unlocker utility and they didn't know how to verify it. Hopefully someone here has a better answer than that!

You're tablet should say something like "this device is unlocked" in the top left hand corner every time you reboot. App worked for me. Fastbooted TWRP recovery and was able to flash a rom.

Are you rooted? Do you see this in the top left hand corner?

I am rooted on .15 right now but I don't see any kind of "unlocked" indicator on reboot in the upper left corner like you describe. When I try to rerun the unlocker tool I get an unknown error and it says it may be due to network connection issue and try again later even though I have perfect network access.

I unlocked on .21 from bone stock. Did your tablet request your gmail and communicate with Asus while the app was running? Although you're showing perfect signal, it may really be a connection issue. Have you tried connecting to a different wifi?

If you power down, power on with vol down plus power, then press down, scroll down to fastboot (I believe second option), press up, do you get 3 options?

What you may want to try is first preserve your root with OTA Rootkeeper. Update to .21, run the unlock tool again (hopefully it'll work), restore root with OTA Rootkeeper. Then flash custom recovery with with Rom or Goo Manager once you've confirmed unlock.

I don't want to give you faulty information that could damage your tablet but you could also try installing a custom recovery now. If you're not unlocked, the installation should fail. If you are unlocked, Goo or Rom Manager should be able to install. Then boot to recovery manually (not with an app) by powering off, vol down + power, power up. Should go to custom recovery. If the flash failed you should get an Android guy for about 15 seconds followed by the tablet rebooting itself normally.

I have root and goomanager/twrp already installed on there. I am leary of just trying to load up cm9 because the last time I tried it with cwm recovery it failed and it hard bricked me so I want to be pretty sure that's not going to happen again. The lack of that unlock status has me nervous for sure.

I honestly don't know why you're not getting the unlock message on boot. If you have a custom recovery installed you are unlocked. That would explain the reason you can't re-lock the device.

Please explain this hard brick? How did it occur and if you recovered from it, than it's technically a soft brick.

Some roms require special installation steps. I flashed Gummy which installed the same as any other rom (wipe, flash, reboot, enjoy).

I hard bricked, this is a new tablet. I tried installing cm9 from cwm recovery via a zip file and after completion it rebooted but was stuck on the eee pad boot screen for and hour or so and after multiple attempts I mistakenly tried to reload a stock rom, which apparently is the wrong thing to do in that case because I then got a bootloader error which according to another thread was unrecoverable. So now we're on tablet two.

Edit - I grew a set and just pulled the trigger and the newest nightly for CM9 went on like a champ via goomanager (donated because of this!). Thanks for taking the time to reply Josh! I appreciate the help and will answer questions about this process if others get stuck here too.

I don't get that text on the splash screen either but I am definitely unlocked. If you are unlocked there will be a file in /sdcard called something like unlocktime.txt - this tells you the time that the Unlock Tool successfully unlocked your Prime.

If you have successfully installed TWRP you are unlocked - it is not possible to install this on a locked unit. I would suspect that your CM9 problems were because of a bad download - did you check the MD5 of the zip? Were you able to recover your Prime after trying CM9?
