Red face [Q] Dialer consuming battery help

Hi, I'm going to try to keep this brief for your guys' convenience.

Every time I view my battery statistics, it shows that my "Dialer" is first ranked in battery consumption, which is indeed causing a large amount of my battery to drain.

My android fascinate was given to me after my mother swapped her phone with it, and I use it only as a mini-computer now. Therefore, I do not need
any phone or messaging apps at all (especially ones that drain my phones battery).

I have had no experience in phone technology until yesterday, where I spent that day and today looking up how to delete the "Dialer" in total. My search had educated me in what rooting a phone is, and how especially a samsung fascinate is a difficult one to root. After many attempts, I finally rooted the phone (with superuser) with DroidStyles guide, found on this website (thanks!). And finally, I uninstalled the "phone" and "Dialer" app, but theres one problem... It gives me a constant error pop-up, which made me restore the two apps.

Yes, I have read in other sections of this forum about what happens if you uninstall "Dialer", and I even read several threads on masking the phone app using an app, or how you can switch off phone options in a motorola HTC (which is unrelated to fascinate).

I haven't found a solution on how to lower the battery use of "Dialer" yet, and was wonder if someone could help me.

Believe me, I've tried looking almost everywhere, and this is my first post I've made after two long days in learning all about a samsung fascinate.

Thanks for your time.

Or would it be better if I swapped the operating system from EH03 (gingerbread) OS into a different OS, such as ice cream sandwich? Is that even possible?

Just go back to Droidstyles guide. And flash a up to date custom rom.. Now that your rooted, you can use titanium backup to backup your apps.. Then pick either a touchwiz based or aosp based rom.. With your issues you may want to go a full restore with Odin before going so. Gl

EH03 ROMS were the best for battery life but only by a small bit. EH03 also has a bit better camera than the ICS/aosp builds. If you want to go this route use SUperclean or Geewiz. Honorable mention to TSM Resurrection

Protip: Don't care about the phone features or cellular service in general? Put the phone in airplane mode and then turn on Wi-fi, bluetooth, etc as needed. You'll save the battery that the cell radio would have been using.
But, even with those things, ICS based ROMS are definitely superior in usability, appearance, and performance. I would use AOKP (the glitched builds) because they are basically the best thing since sliced bread.

I would only use EH03 if you are going to use the Fascinate primarily as a camera.

Anyway, follow droidstyle's guide (what a swell fella, eh?) and you'll be able to get on ICS rather expediently. Just don't rush. Rushing=derping.

Protip: Winners NEVER 3-finger into recovery on Ice Cream Sandwich. They use the reboot menu or 'adb reboot recovery' from adb or terminal.
