No truth to this. My phone is bricked and won't go into download mode. This does nothing.

You should try leaving the battery out like others have said. If it doesn't work try pushing the power button a bunch with the battery out... eventually you should be able to get back in download mode. If you are still using the stock usb cable get rid of it, it solved a lot of problems for me when I did.

i screwed my phone while I was oding-ing something on it (unplugged too early apparently) and suffered a severe brick.. nothing would turn on, no download mode, no charging sign, nothing at all. Tried leaving the battery out for like 10 mins and what not, tried unplugging and replugging constantly, different chargers, etc. Nothing worked. And then i fumbled across this and i tried it. Took a safety pin and pressed really hard into that "button." Nothing happened at first, but then I took the batter out and put it back in (i believe someone said to do this, cant remember) and tried the download mode key combo and download mode pops up.. this is amazing. meanwhile, must install stock rom so i don't ruin my phone any further...

EDIT: srry didn't notice how old this thread was, out of excitement of unbricking with this method. I came back to say that I bricked it AGAIN and the same exact method unbricked it.

The "know it all's" always claim no button exists and its funny because later models DO have a button. If your epic is a 2010 model, you got epically screwed.

I'm just glad others confirm a working button because I took crap from big names I won't list, and they belittled me into thinking their "knowledge" was the only real answer.

Okay I'm done ranting now...

Mine looks just like your pic, so I'll bet that if you place your light source at a more extreme angle, you'll be able to see that the plastic smoothly curves to the bottom, with no break or seam of any kind. The plastic in the middle is a part of the case - any "clicking" you hear is probably plastic-on-circuit board, because it turns out that one of the benefits of plastic is that it is somewhat flexible, and can often be bent by less than the maximum amount of force an average child can generate...

I still doubt the existence of the button, and your picture doesn't show any sort of proof... please excuse my sarcasm, but this dead horse has already been beaten, set aflame and then pissed on

"What is this?! When does this happen in the movie?!"

"Now, sir. You're looking at now - everything that's happening now, is happening now."

Anyone have a tech repair manual? If its not in the manual, its not on the phone. Maybe go ask on sprintusers.com? There's gotta be a tech that can look it up to put the matter down definitively.
