Btw: TB appears to have root access ( it says: root access: ok). However, when I try to update the Superuser binary it says if fails to gain root access.

If you're properly rooted you have to use Root Uninstaller Pro,but be careful with the apps to uninstall.

so what happened to the recovery that was to be worked on?

There is no easy way to do this with this rom.
