When I read posts like this, I can help but think that the person has no idea what root actually is.
Root is not something mysterious or magical.
Root does not change your stock ICS.
Root does not make you device different/better/worse than stock.
Root does not mean you are using a custom ROM or custom kernel.
Root does not mean OTA updates will not work -- they will.
You do not root a device (that wording doesn't make sense), you root the ROM you are running.
Root is just a term meaning you have root level access to the files in your build.
Root is just two (yes, that's right, two) files copied to your device. Nothing more.
Root allows you to use apps that you would not otherwise be able. It does not make you use them -- it just gives you the option.
Root allows you to install custom ROMs and kernels -- it does not force you to, just gives you the option.
I am running a fully stock ROM and kernel, but I have root access. I have the exact same ROM and kernel as you who is stock with no root. I just have a few apps that you are not allowed to use.
