Phone status says it's charging with USB on mine. I have USB Fast Charge enabled in my kernel though, so that shouldn't matter much. However, with music streaming over Bluetooth, Navigation, and screen on with auto brightness, it lost about 10% on my 20min drive to work today.

For the Google apk's:
Car Home is the actual app
Car Dock is what triggers Car Home to launch when you place it in the dock

I'm starting to wonder if the extended battery is causing the pogo pins to not make solid contact, and that's why the charging is so slow on mine, even with FFC enabled. My standard battery is at home, so I won't be able to test that theory out until later this evening.

Another thing, I'm using an aftermarket generic USB car charger (5v/1a) so I will test it again with the Samsung charger (which is ridiculously gigantic) and see if it switches to AC mode.

That's your problem! The Samsung charger that came with it is a 1 amp charger, while generics are 500 milliamp.

Yeah that's what is doing it. You will get A/C charging rate with the Samsung charger. It isn't necessarily what the charger outputs, but rather what the phone thinks it is plugged into. The generic ones often aren't made correctly and don't "jump" the data connections, so the phone thinks it is plugged into a computer and will only "accept" .5 amps.

No dice on speaker out during phone with google car apk. I just tested and it is still speakerphone. I am still hoping there is a workaround.

Which model car charger comes with the Google Play car dock kit? I need to buy a new car charger and want to just go the official Samsung route. The Griffin PowerJolt Dual that I had been using with my Atrix 4G and BlackBerry is only charging my Nexus at the USB rate and not the AC rate. The charger charged both of my previous phones at 1amp... simultaneously. Though apparently it doesn't adhere to the "new" USB charging specs that the Nexus incorporates so... USB charging is all the Nexus will draw from it. Frustrating. Anyway, if someone could provide the model no. of the car charger included I'd appreciate it.

I don't know man... 'push2flush' just said that his desk dock with the official samsung cable that he NORmally gets AC mode when directly connected with to the cable, is still giving USB mode. ****... I just ordered mine too...

I think i'm starting to confuse people. My USB charging issue is with the DESKTOP DOCK, not the car dock. I didn't get my car dock in yet (monday).

Yeah to avoid confusion here I am referring to the car dock. The desk dock does something internally to charge at USB rate no matter how it is plugged in. The car charger does allow for AC charge rate though.
