Well, I guess we find out tomorrow (Friday) what the resolution to this problem is.

After many emails with HTC, I sent them my phone. When I queried the length of time the phone was in repair, they told me they were waiting on parts.

The phone has been repaired now and is being couriered back to me.

I'll let you all know what I find.

EDIT: Spoke too soon. I've just had an email from HTC saying "Due to the delay in awaiting parts the device has been swapped to avoid any further delay."

So all I can do now is test the replacement when it arrives and see if it suffers the same fault. I'll post all the technical details for comparison as they may have a more up to date firmware, radio, etc on the replacement. It better not have an S3 though!

Thanks for the update Zoesdad, let's not be sceptical but if HTC don't know what the problem is it really can't be fixed?
I wonder is the problem down to a certain batch of phones made in a particular plant as a friend of mine has a One S and no problem but from a different carrier, just an idea?
I bow to more wiser members knowledge and would urge people when emailing HTC to put as much info as kernal, baseband, firmware and software versions. Maybe they have all the information but if it can help narrow things down.

This my point, is the problem down to a certain "build" type? I'm not too sure if it is. But the retailer is where the problem goes back too, well under EU consumer rights it is.

I read somewhere that different operators use different radio frequencies, within the set band.
This sounds like some carriers could be more susceptible than others.

Well if that works for you Shandorkar thats great but keep us updated on how your phone reacts with the other SIM's.
On a side note I have tried my brothers Vodafone SIM in my One S and I did get the same problem but not to the same extent never the less its still there.
Ive been in touch with my service provider and I'm not leaving my phone in until I get a replacement and that wont be until Monday....Role on Monday!!

DONATE TO ME
@Shandorkar:
First of all, if you state that the buttons are NOT capacitive, do some research and let me know the facts. I am fairly sure we are talking about capacitive buttons.
It is very hard to come by some hardware details like what tech is used with the buttons. I could not quite certainly google it. Yet the function of the buttons seems very much capacitive to me. I might give HTC a ring tomorrow to ask them directly.

Regarding my Warranty-process:
My wifes One S has gotten so bad with this button issue she doesn't want to have it anymore.
1&1 replied to me both on telefone and on email now that they don't want to do the support unless the 1&1 Customer who sold it to me contacts them. Bad luck as i had all details regarding that dude on my HD2 with WP7 and that has been killed a week ago and replaced by Android. Zip, Nada, Nothing. Just remember the Address and now trying to find out the phone number to ring that dude up.

Bad Luck again: HTC does not get back to me. They seem to ignore my request. I will need to nag them more.

I am very surprised how hard it can be to get support for a device i have legally bought and call my own. I am feeling treated like some thief or something.
Please report HTC One S Home Button Issue using these links!
Main Sheet: http://goo.gl/mPBzB --> All affected devices
Secondary Sheet: http://goo.gl/5gAR8 --> Only serials xx26 and up (referred to as "newer devices")

i'm confusion, the problem is disappear. i was tested my phone over 2 hours on my job with megafon operator (basic). there was very low quality of signal GSM (0 or 1 or 2 points)!!!! Edge was always activity (web browsing)! signal is losed sometimes. i think issue was gone temporarily, but now i can't reproduce it. there's no sense testing now with other operator

Strange here too! My phone seems to have gone back to normal also. I did a hard reset yesterday evening and I didnt download any apps and the phone is stable so far, I'm on GSM/WCDMA auto settings and tried it on GSM earlier and the same.
I'll keep you all posted on how the day goes with the phone. Strange!!

Update: Phone is acting up again, roughly 2 hour of running smoothly. Back to square one
