Tutorial [Tutorial][Games] NookColor Graphicly Intensive Games

December 2012 Update:

I haven't been on in a while so this is going to be a small update Just let in you all know! I have gotten Asphalt 7 working and Im expanding on it now making it more stable. Horn is too big and requires a better GPU and CPU so this is a no go, sorry all of you hoping for this. Fast 5 is a work in progress still so Ill keep you up to date on that! Cheers and Happy Holidays!

I have gotten many good games to work on the NookColor (Encore) recently and I thought I would share my findings here. This thread is filled with my ideas on why some games work and others do not.
I can also assist people in getting these games working on their own devices with, over email. I will soon have such instructions available in a thread or something, but until then, cheers!

Games:

- N.O.V.A. 3
- Modern Combat 3: Fallen Nation
- Mass Effect: Infiltraitor
- Dead Trigger
- Shadow Gun
- Shadow Gun: Dead Zone
- Asphalt 7

What I'm Running:

Eyeballer's CM10
- CPU Clocking for Daily Use: 1200 MHz Governor: ONDEMAND
- CPU Clocking for Gaming: 1200 MHz Governor: PERFORMANCE

New! What ROM(s) Work:

- Eyeballer's CM9 Non open.gl Unofficial Nightly Builds
- Eyeballer's CM10

What Works:

- Campaign
- Multiplayer
- Normal Graphics
- Cutscenes
- Sound
- Gameplay
- Offline Play (Mass Effect: Infiltraitor is NOT playable offline)

What CPU Clocking Works:
(CPU clocked above 1200 MHz is unstable and can overheat your device if used for extended periods)

- 1100 and lower MHz: Graphically intensive games don't work. Good for games like Angry Birds.
- 1200-1275 MHz: Smooth and unfaltering, slight frame rate drops in the graphic intense areas.
- 1300-1375 MHz: Smooth and unfaltering, Some errors and FC's.
- 1400-1475 MHz: Creates crashes, FC's and errors as well as lag.

Do you mean all nooks clocked over 1200mhz is bad, or just running cm9? I'm running cm7.1 at 1325mhz, and just want to make sure I'm not doing something stupid. Thanks

Yes and no. If you have a 24/7 overclock of above 1200 MHz, then it is very unstable and can cause damadge. The Texas Instruments OMAP is good at managing overclock up to 1200 MHz, so if your 1200 MHz and don't go over that, you should be fine. It dosent matter what software, it is all the same processor.

In other words, if you are constantly running the way you are, you may be slowly damadging the processor and after a long period of time it will just die completely. Now if you just clock it that high when gaming or running a system taxing process, then you should be just fine, as long as you lower it into acceptable levels when you are done with said process.

I hope this helps!

Yes that does help, and thank you. I've jumped into all of this with absolutely no knowledge of computers or anything related and would never forgive myself ifI did something to damage my nook. Lol. I hate to bother you with another question, but im wanting to run cm9 off an sd card butI can't seem tI find good instructions on how to do so. My problem is that even using generic-sdcard-v1.3-ics-large-img and its still says I don't have enough space whenI try and put a cm9 nightlies on boot. Very confused. Once again thankyou for your help and sorry to bother you.

You are using a ssandisk class 4 card? if not You may have problems. I use only Sandisk sd cards 8 or 16 GB cards.
You write the image file to the sdcard, remove the sdcard then reinsert card back into the computer, then use easeus or mintools partision program to resize the partision to about 1GB (do not resize above 1.87gb or you will have problems), remove and reinsert the card and then copy the ICS nightly to the sdcard. follow the rest of the insrtuction from there.

Adding on to Paul's post (which did a nice complete job, I might add.), you want to do a full wipe of the SD Card using your NookColor (preferable because Windows 7 dosent recognized some items you flash to the SD card) or Computer.

I have a Nook Color 1.4.2 running Verygreen CM7 via SD Card. I installed Nova v3.50.apk and I get the game running in a very small screen on my Nook Color.

What am I doing wrong? How can it run full screen like yours?

Thanks.

This is N.O.V.A 3 the new game by gameloft v1.0.1 not the Nova 1 v1.0.1. I am running CM9 however and on my device emmc (internal memory).

That explains it. Wrong game.

I wonder if NOVA3 will run on CM7/SD.
