I need to understand kernels better, what they control exactly, why people make variations, and how to identify what works on your phone and what doesn't.
I'm currently on a Unity kernel according to Software information on the phone.

As far as I understand it, the job of the kernel is to tell the hardware how to behave and make it work with OS - in our case Android - as well as allowing inter-process communication

Coders modify the kernel to optimize and streamline. For instance, they can alter the voltages that the hardware runs at, thereby increasing battery life. Also, they can add or take away governors which tell the cpu how to behave. Different governors do different things, but many custom ones (especially smartass and it's many derivatives) offer greater battery life while still giving the user a smooth experience.

Ok, I can see how being on a kernel cooked for a different ROM could be problematic. Like me having the Unity kernel on the ARHD ROM.
Does anyone know who created the Demonspeed kernel and what it is set up to do? Also, does it matter to take a kernel like that and run it at the regular clock speed? I'm not crazy about overclocking.

Great... now I've got the keyboard issue coming back where certain keys are unresponsive. This happens on certain ROMs. Shame it has to happen on ARHD.
Yeah, I know all about the "fix". Doesn't work for me. Just have to go with a different ROM.

Those keys being unresponsive is not the ROM, I think. Here's a nice read on that issue - http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1205155

Yes, that read is what I meant. It claims to be a fix but it's not really. A significant number of people have gotten nowhere with it. I've written in that thread a lot about my experiments with ROMs. It's always ROM related. I've tried MIUI and CM7.. no problems, other ROMs.. horrible keyboard response. It is by phone hardware and ROM. The wrong combination messes up the keyboard. Looks like it's with ARHD for me too.

Thanks for the heads up man, I was thinking of trying ARHD~ Guess I'll just stick to Virtuous Affinity, the 1 that I know and doesn't give me keyboard freeze. I'm sure there's few more out there, but I'm too lazy to flash and test them all.

I think it's more software related, than hardware. If was hardware issue, it would happen across any roms.
