To install :

3/ copy mms.apk to the system/app folder with a file manager (ie : ES File Explorer)

You can just install it as normal apk. well it works that way on the rom that im using, but you can install manually by moving it to /system/app and setting permissions to rw-r--r--

Litderose's mod working well here too.

Backed it up in my custom_backup_list so I dont need to reinsert the apk every ROM flash.

Just a quick question. How to make this mod permanent on my phone? Cos everytime I reboot my phone, it goes back to stock mms setup. I just followed what rho57 said, installed it as a normal apk. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Follow the original instructions of pasting it in as a system app.

You can also make the mms.apk persistent through CM7 flashes by adding it as part of the custom _backup_list.txt file.
1. Open the custom_backup_list.txt file in /etc (create the file if it's non-existent)
2. Type in "app/Mms.apk" without quotes
3. Save the file

CM7 zips will now back-up that apk and restore it after each flash.

I noticed that the screenshot posted by rho57, his MMS is transparent whereas mine is not. : How should I do that?

The custom_backup_list.txt file does not exist on my /etc, so I attempt to create the file but it will just fail. I checked my /system/app and mms.apk is there (green smiley icon).

Sorry, not sure why you have the error. You could install GetRIL from the market, if you ask it backup your RIL, it will actually create that file for you.

We all have Mms.apk's in our /system/app folders. Please read the OP instructions carefully.

And btw, I switched to the stock mms app again. As I apparently like seeing a wall of text.

IMO, the best way to keep my mod permanent is to paste it into the rom's file before flashing.
With 7zip, I open the rom's file, and then, I push the mms.apk file into the system/app directory.
I do that with every Temasek's or MisjudgedTwat's rom before flashing.
No permission problem, no double sms, everything's working well.
I also do that with AppWidgetPicker.apk, SegoeWP fonst, Stefan Gündhör's Stock Calendar mod and the Flix's stock camera mod.
