That is pretty terrible if it won't get ice till then. The xperia s is supposed to have it by the end of the month so I don't understand. Why their is such a long wait for the ion. The are essentially the same phone.

That's kind of weird though considering the Ion is also sold contract free. I guess there are much more Xperia S unlocked even though they are also sold n contract as well.

Sony may release ICS for the international Ion at the same time that they release ICS for the Xperia S. However, AT&T reviews any manufacturer updates and puts them through extensive testing. So while other Ions are enjoying ICS, the AT&T versions get to wait for AT&T to do all their homework. This happened to me with my x10. SE released 2.1 internationally, but AT&T decided not to release it for the x10's sold by them. I'm sure the XDA community will figure out a way to get us any ICS updates.
Sony Ion - Rom: LT28H 4.0.4 ICS BABY! - Kernel: Stock (waiting for DEVs )
Samsung Captivate - Rom: ICSSGS 4.0.3 - Kernel Semaphore 1.0.0
Sony Ericsson X10 - Rom: Oodie Prime - Kernel: Oodie's FXPMod

Exactly. The unlocked ion will almost certainly see the ICS update before the AT&T version. I'll see if I can find out when that is supposed to be.

- Xperia S, LT26i, has all the features I was looking for . Just wonder about battery life (1750mAh). Is it good enough? not sure

- what about Xperia Acro S, LT26W, which is basically similar to Xperia S but is water/dust proof (IP67), has MicroSD slot and also a bigger battery (1910mAh)? And it is supposed to be ICS ready out of the box.

- what about Xperia ion, LT28i, as is being mentioned here? Seems to be a good option as well, including 4G support (future proof investment, since 4G is not ready here in Brazil yet), bigger screen (4.55") and also has microSD slot

- what about GX, LT29i, which is lighter (127g) and has a bigger screen of all (4.6"), is ICS ready out of the box, MHL AV/Link (supposed to make a dock easier with a single cable, just wonder if HDMI and USB OTG will be supported at same connection), new CPU with Adreno 225 GPU (slightly hi spec) , but only 1700mAh battery

- what about the Japanese Xperia Acro HD SO-03D, which basically has same specs as the Xperia S but also has a MicroSD slot, a bigger battery capacity (1910mAh) and also offers a Digital TV Tuner (compatible in Brazil, called One Seg) ? Just don't understand why this model still uses the Sony Ericsson logo.

All those phones are ready for sale on the chinese website:
http://sintip.com/product/sort41-1.html

It is interesting because all those models seems to be ready for sale:
-Xperia S: around US$405
-Xperia Acro S: around US$546
-Xperia Ion : around US$470
-Xperia GX: around US$610
-Xperia Acro HD SO-03D: around US$485

I live in Brazil but have a few friends who live in China/Shenzhen, so could be possible to order it. Just not sure if it is a safe store.

My last phone was a HTC HD2 which I used for almost 2 years. Looking for an upgrade now.
I have a hard time believing that the Xperia GX is really for sale on there. The phone hasn't even been released in Japan yet.

Yeah, I went thought this whole mess with the Galaxy S Captivate. Ice Cream Sandwich was on the International Galaxy S before AT&T rolled out Gingerbread to the Captivate. I was really considering this phone because of the Ant+ functionality but was a bit turned off a little when I saw it wasn't launching with ICS. I've been running ICS on my Captivate for quite some time now and don't know if I could go back to Gingerbread. Any idea how long it will take the community to get a functional ICS ROM out?

I'd be willing to bet that the community will get us a flashable .ftf of the generic ICS update as soon as Sony releases it for the unlocked phones. Custom ICS roms on the other hand probably won't come until that happens because the bootloader will be locked. The Devs dedicated to SE products have been very good at working around bootloaders and building custom ROMs. I have faith in them. Besides, GB on a 1.5Ghz dual core has to be better than GB on a 1Ghz single core.

I am an owner of xperia p, also got the screen problem, but when compare with a korean brand's flagship screen...its almost nothing
sony's software is flawless to me, i haven't experience any crash or freeze over the week.
But with sony releasing phones in asia first then europe later, it takes time for xda to get noticed and set up forums for them
good thing i llive in hk

Samsung has released a few phones on ATT with unlocked bootloaders. I am cautiously optimistic that the Ion won't have a locked bootloader. I won't be buying one if it does.

Also why the hell is the ion launching on a Sunday. Are ATT stores even open on a sunday?
