Default [Q] How to root Huawei U8651T (T-Mobile Prism) / U8651S (T-Mobile Summit)

I was wondering how to root the Huawei U8651T also known as the T-mobile Prism that was recently released.

I've tried using SuperOneClick, but it always freezes on step 7. I've also tried manually applying the zergRush exploit, but it seems to have been patched either on my phone or just Android 2.3.6.

Is it possible to root this phone using the same method as for Huawei U8650 Sonic?

Thanks

Thumbs up Wind Mobile - Huawei u8651t Root and Huawei Sonic CM7.2

The step below works perfectly but I forgot to do a backup of the original Wind Stock Rom in recovery. Could someone please post the Windmobile ROM? Thanks.

Huawei (Astro/Prism) u8651t has the same hardware as Huawei (Sonic) u8650. So the Sonic Rom will work on the Astro/Prism phone.

-------------------------------------

Step 1: google -> crazypig u8651t rom
Step 2: download the CWrevovery and CyanogenMod 7.2 STABLE (2.3.7) 16-06-2012
Step 3: Follow the instruction below

down load CW revober first: CWRevovery

1.Trun off your U8651t and take out the battery
2.Put back your battery, and when you trun it on.Hold on Vol.- and power button
3.connect your U8651t to your computer
4.running Recovery.bat from the files you donwload, when it finshed, U8651t will reboot.
5.Flash any rooted Rom

your can download this Rom CyanogenMod 7.2 STABLE (2.3.7) 16-06-2012

Unhappy Tmobile Prism (u8651T ) dont boot after CM7

Ok, so i read this

and install sucesfully the CW recovery
so i copied CyanogenMod 7.2 STABLE (2.3.7) . zip

and flashed with the menu on CW
all went fine until that point, when i reboot the phone
i get a white tmobile screen with the logo ( as normal boot before the flash )
then i get the moving CyanogenMod moving logo
after that i get black screen.... no LED.... nothing... just that ( i can see the screen active with a little glow.... but nothing... just lala land for the phone

i need to remove the the battery to make it boot again... but same cycle
after the CyanogenMod screen.... black....

now i got a paper weight...
any ideas ?

-------------------------------------------- EDIT
ohhhhh it works now, i wiped off the caches, and user data and it booted now !!!!
sorry for the rant...

PHONE MUST BE UNLOCKED BEFORE DOING THIS

- if you want to use a non TMO SIM card.
Bought code on fleabay - takes a day or 2 for them to access your phone and figure it out.

SEE POST 104+105 - ALSO WORKS WITH 8651S

I did this with a win7 computer.

On the Huawei U8651T tmo Prism, from power off,
volup+poweron held for at least 12 secs brings you to the recovery screen
voldn+poweron held for at least 15 secs is the fastboot screen (white with tmobile on it)(it just sits there).

Credit goes to "crazypig" whose site is no longer working.

THE PROCEDURE:
0) (make sure you've backed up anything on the phone in case something goes wrong.)
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU BRICK YOUR PHONE. YOU DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!
1) a)Download CWRecovery (U8651.zip)(bottom of this post) and expand it. This will be used to install the Clockworkmod Recovery image.
b)Download update.zip, but do not expand it - this goes on your SD card. This roots a stock ROM.
c)If you want, download CyanoGen's rooted 7.2 rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1708205 4th release , and the gapps file. Ignore the audio and LED fixes - they are for earlier releases of the ROM. They go on your SD card.

2) Put your phone in USB Debug mode: settings -> applications -> Development -> check USB Debugging .

3) The driver:
From power off, start the phone into fastboot mode (voldn+poweron for 15 sec)(white screen with t-mobile) (U8651S:fast boot screen is just the Huawei logo for the Summit) then plug your phone to your computer via the USB charging cable.
Nothing will happen on the phone, but you'll probably hear that chime indicating a device has been plugged.
Open Win7 Device Manager and look for an android device with a flag.
It is looking for a driver called something like "android sooner single...etc" .
Make sure your windows update is set to allow search on the internet for drivers.
Then double click that yellow flagged item, pick update driver, pick search internet, and off it goes and will find your driver.
For U8651S use this:

http://www.huaweidevice.com/worldwid...oftid=Mzk1MzA=

4) Once you have your driver, and the phone (in fastboot mode) (is recognized as just "ADB interface / Fastboot interface),
go to that expanded U8651.zip folder and click on recovery.bat .

That will flash clockworkmod's recovery image on your phone. That will allow you to do neat things like back up your rom and restore it...
You can now unplug your phone from the computer.

--> if you do succeed in running recovery.bat, then immediately
a) Boot to the recovery screen if you're not there already (volup+poweron for 8 secs).
b) voldn to backup and restore, and backup your current system!!!
-----> note, at this point you can jump to step 5 below if you just want to root your current system.
c) voldn to "wipe data / factory reset", press the power button for the next screen and do it
DO NOT REBOOT.
d) vol-dn to "backup and restore", press the power button and follow the screens to do a backup. this is your FACTORY BACKUP. (leave the backups on the SD card, but copy them to your computer before you go further.

5) Now power on into recovery screen (volup+poweron), and chose "apply update from SDcard". This action, and crazypig's update module is what roots your rom and puts superuser app in your system library. You now have a rooted rom.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To flash the Cyanogenmod rom:
Power off, boot to recovery menu (volup+power for 8 secs or so)
Select backup and restore and backup your current rom and it's data.
Select wipe data/factory reset, and do it.
Select instal zip from SD card, navigate to the "root" zip and select it. This flashes the ROM.
Then repeat to flash gapps. (the google play etc)
choose reboot
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Don't forget to take your phone out of USB Debug mode: settings -> applications -> Developement -> un-check USB Debugging .

EDIT: I notice that if my phone is off and I plug it into the wall charger, it pops up into the recovery menu. No idea if it's charging, but the screen stays on. Not good to leave it that way. So I just swap batteries and use my external charger.

u8651.zip is at http://www.adbtoolkit.com/recovery/i...i/prism/u8651/
update.zip is at http://www.adbtoolkit.com/rooting/devices/huawei/
rom is at http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1708205 1st post 4th release, also gapps.
