Question Confused a little on the versions.

Hi guys I had a question with the different versions of GEN1 and I had the ota that was PN1 something like that?!? (Sorry for the lack of info) I flashed one of the leaked versions of 4.0 (Acer_a100_av014_1.014.00_www_GEN1) I had no issues with TWRP & FlexReaper other than the fact w/the 1st flash of everything in the thread the rom, the patch etc. I for some reason had more apps than the 2nd time I flashed it and did not install any extra apps in between. Due to my neurotic OCD I felt the urge to do it all over (I am a super space cadet) now I cannot install the correct leak and unlock my bootloader do TWRP and flash a freaking from again. I have moved out of the noob stage so I thought guess I was wrong. Can someone tell me what I was doing wrong sorry if in did not give great details I am obsessed w/Calligraphy pens, notebooks and writing so I never remember full details Its always on paper and then someone steals it.

Ok ODD!!! I finally got the bootloader unlocked finally the thread I snatched the file from only had install not install-eng it also would not let me run as admin but worked when i just did install. Thats is crazy the 1st flash done a while ago did not do that. I dig FlexReaper but was wondering if anyone had and other suggestions on other A100 roms even if this is about ICS

Default A100 ICS Update FINALLY came through

I've been trying to get the official OTA ICS update since late April. Nothing. Two weeks ago, I called ACER, and they said I'd need to send in my unit to have the update done. I still have an open ticket, and can send it in.

Yesterday, I started receiving updates. Several initial ones (including a large 170+ Meg one), and the tablet didn't seem to change (Still HC, even after that big download). Then, a few more downloads, and I got the notification that the next update was the new OS . Everything looks good - ICS came through, without me sending it in(!)

One question: Did Acer get enough complaints about not being able to update, that they actually looked into it? Was it worth it for them to force out a re-install of the original OS so that the ICS update would take? My guess is that the thought of receiving thousands of tablets so they could manually do the install was a bit daunting for them.

Any thoughts from the more experienced masses?

Since tablets lack a menu button, looks for a : looking icon, usually in the upper right corner of the app, Its 3 dots.

In my signature there is a guide which includes some of the current ROMs that you can run on the A100. Also in this guide is some other info about properly preparing your device for flashing a new ROM. It sounds like you aren't wiping in between ROMs, which will result in more and more apps in between them, as previous apps get added in with the ROMs apps. There is also tools to help with this, but give the guide a read, it will help ALOT even if its long and boring, it has just about anything you need to know to rock the A100 in all it's glory!

I can't update the official OTA update. It downloads (after the smaller first update, which went fine) but, as it installs, it stops at an android logo with an exclamation sign and then restarts in 3.2.1, with a message indicating the update failed.
Acer official support said to do a factory wipe and retry. But, since I don't want to do that if it can be avoided, anyone knows of any other way to apply the official update/troubleshoot/etc? I had modified the build.prop file, but restored the original, and it's rooted, but I've heard of people with rooted tablets getting the OTA update, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Being rooted doesn't mean you can't upgrade, running the ICS leak is what kept the OTA from showing up on the tab.

Honestly, if you aren't willing to wipe to do the update, you don't want it that bad. Keeping data between OS upgrades is a bad idea and you should reset anyways.

While I appreciate your concern for my interests, I think I know what I want better than most people. Most OTA updates were done without wiping data and I don't see a lot of threads here complaining about issues because of that, so it doesn't seem to be a big risk.

Right, that's why people complain about 4.0.3 being buggy laggy crashy and overall crap and want to go back to HC. Its because updating the OS to a major update without wiping affects nothing. I know what I'm talking about, and not wiping during any OS change has the very real potential to cause problems. It's widely known. What you want vs what is the correct method are two different things, and right now, they are at odds with each other.

Not wiping even between different ICS ROMs can cause problems, do you really think that moving from 3.0 to 4.0 while not wiping won't cause a problem? And when those problems start, calling Acer will result in one thing: Wipe.

That aside, use one of the update.zip methods if you want to update outside of OTA, but you will likely lose any more OTA updates. I don't know if anyone made an official OTA update available for install outside of Acer's update.

I've wiped it, but it's still not updating. I'm thinking I'll have to take it back to Acer. Once wiped, are there some leftovers in the internal memory which would indicate the technicians the tablet was rooted and the build.prop file modified, or is the entire internal storage wiped back to defaults?
