I have had the same issues (4G disconnecting and not reconnecting until Mobile Networks in the settings is turned off and then on) in FL panhandle since mid-May. Did not see this in Midwest, where I live permanently, and other parts of the country I traveled to, such as DC area. Called tech support numerous times, was told that these problems were not reported previously in FL panhandle. No resolution, of course.
Is there any of you rooted that are having this specific issue? It's not just a 4g issue. It affects the data connection completely and you have no data what-so-ever and it goes on and off randomly (i think, havnt been able to pin point if its an system app issue or network issue).

I am having this issue, stock, rooted GB. It started happening after I came back to GB from CleanROM ICS. my data signal has gone out literally 10 times since I started reading this thread. Bars, but missing "4G" indicator.
I also can only manually correct the issue by turning mobile network off/on. I live and work in the NYC / Central Jersey area. When I bump down to 3G, data does not intermittently go out. The 4G random data loss happens regardless of signal strength.
I have tested, and I can make phone calls and send texts in this state, but that's it...

Factory reset will fix this, went from tonked ics to stock gingerbread in preparation for warranty replacement had the 4g cut out 5 times in an hour. Factory reset, and rock solid connection ever since.

Thank you, but I am fairly experienced doing my flashing. I wiped, flashed a recovery of Stock GB, flashed the correct Hboot/firmware/radios from chilpil's development thread in bootloader and started using my phone.
I noticed that problem after a few hours. Yesterday I factory reset the phone and the same issue occurred.
I will attempt a bootloader factory reset this evening, but I don't believe that will fix the issue.

didn't try to say you weren't experienced, just stated that a factory reset would fix it
that was based on my success after performing the reset, and was probably a bit presumptuous if it in fact doesn't cure the connection ills for everyone
but I've had this situation occur three times, and each time a reset has fixed it

take that as you will
So can you clarify this a little? Were you on the same rom each time you had to reset or was it when you switched roms? If your on the same rom and have to do a reset every few days that's just insane. From my experience on this issue it hasn't made a difference. I have flashed both the current stock gingerbread and ics ruus and done multiple resets from hboot and from the phone settings when its running on both gingerbread and ics and neither has worked. Not sure what is causing the issue but everything anyone has said they tried and it worked I have done and it doesn't. I get a new sim today so if that doesn't work I'm thinking its a hardware issue.

Yuuuuup
happens every time I flash a ruu
and I do my resets in the os rather than hboot if that means anything

Flashing stock GB ruu (as in running .exe utility from pc) did not fix this for me. Flashing the latest (at that moment) ICS leak also did not help. Running low on quick-fix ideas, I even reverted back to S-ON, but this did not help either. Finally, swapping a new sim card did not work just the same - the 4G icon was gone as soon as I left the store. Right now I am completely stock, s-on, unrooted, and the issue remains.
I can also confirm that signal strength has nothing to do with 4G disconnects - it has been cutting out for me at -52db. The only solution is to switch to CDMA/3G, as 3G connection seems to be much more stable.
