Sorry guys, as I said I already asked him for help (even promised a few hundred bucks bounty), but he couldn't find a way to root it.

My last hope is Gingerbreak exploit, but I need to get my Defy mini back to try it (my boss just went to USA with it ... he forgot to give it back to me).

I think GB exploit is too old and fixed in Defy Mini firmware.

It`s interesting why Dan cant find a way to root? It is because of new bootloader BL7? or 2.3.6 android is bug-free software? It would be cool if he write some words about it.

Is it an official reason to return the defi mini because it cannot be rooted? Is rooting illegal?

I did all the steps in ubuntu 12.04 but when i put the defy into bootloader and i connected it to mu pc, adb didnt detect it.
Look at step 3. here:
developer.android.com
/tools/device.html#setting-up

For XT320 the line should be

SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="22b8", MODE="0666"

Hope it helps...
