Unless Google actually makes sure OS updates get out than I/O will be a let down. Their whole partnership BS from last year is such a joke now. I know most consumers don't care and with themed sins it hides but it's just bad and embarrassing. It's been 8 months since it was announced and it's still not out to a large majority of devices that can run it.
Why don't you try and design your own OS update (or rom) instead of complain on the forums? If you have time to complain, then go protest to the carrier and/or manufacturer for the desired update. At least we're getting an official ICS update (unlike certain phones).

Then don't argue. At least we have some awesome developers who are willing to try and make our android phone experience even better than the stock experience.

It's not Google that's totally in the wrong here....all they are doing is what we want: giving us new and up to date OSs. From what I've gathered its VZW and HTC that are holding up ICS on our device. HTC hasn't released kernel, and without anything official from them, I don't see big red moving any faster.

I realize that and am the first to defend them when people get on their case. I always say thank you when they give us something new or help out when needed. However it doesn't fix the larger issue with US carriers and Google.

That said, who wants a moustache ride?
Whatever it is, I think Google can do more to streamline their Android OS.. I don't think the whole Opensource thing should be used as an excuse to this. Anyway, I will think about whether that is really feasible or not later this week as right now, I can't!
But the following is pure comedy my friends - Android Jellybean will be available starting July, and so far less than 10% Androids are using ICS... AND by the time HTC releases ICS on our beloved Dinc2, it is already OUTDATED... Think about that when you start to think: it is not Google's fault. What is the point of releasing these updates when a vast majority of your userbase won't benefit from it till they finally give up? Something must be done. The reason Google should do something about it is because it gives Android a bad name and even though Android 4.0 and 4.1 are great, since most people use GB and god forbid, Froyo! even now, they will say Android sucks, and may be move on to another platform. It is detrimental to the platform. And then, developers are not helped either. They can't make use of the latest improvements in their apps else a majority of the people can't use it as they are on the old platform. And the ones on the new ones will have a shoddy, unoptimized app meant for old platforms. OR they have to make to versions of the app! A major PITA. And less quality apps will also be detrimental to the ecosystem... It is therefore in the best interest of the users and of Google to control the manufacturers throwing tantrums when it comes to updates and skins: Waah! No I need to make my own TouchWiz/Sense/<Put your own> skin! Waah! Suck it up, and give your users the best experience (a.k.a. the AOSP experience) as quickly as possible. Stop skinning stuff, and at best differentiate your products from other manufacturers with better hardware design and better hardware/software integration. NOT gimmicks (aka S Voice of SGS3 and other "inspired by nature" BS). Stuff like improved image sensors of HTC One X or SGS3 and other customs apps that improve productivity (like some things in SGS3) are good... I guess the only best option, as of now, is get a Nexus device.... Rest is a boring, nail biting, waiting game...
P.S: Can I expect CM10 next month? Or atleast by August!?

Do you honestly think the average users cares bout these updates? Chances are no, they just want to use the phone an that's it. The only ones that care about updates are people like us, we have more pull then the average person. If yall get ics, porting jb won't be very hard

My point is not whether the average user craves for an update or not. It is precisely the point that they don't know about these updates and probably believe GB is the latest version of Android (since their phone says that they are up to date). If the user faces no issues with the phone, then good for them. But if they do, they will probably believe that Android sucks and blah, blah and not realize that it is thanks to the remarkable incompetence of the manufacturers that they are stuck on a buggy phone and aren't getting the updates they should (like my old Droid X2) and this will negatively impact the image of Android and their experience with it. The Droid X2, for instance, is stuck on GB 2.3.5. It has numerous bugs, but thanks to the efforts of a single dev, they have CM7 and recently CM9 that helps alleviate many of its short comings. People unaware of rooting/installing ROMS etc, who are on stock will loathe that phone (like I did). They will probably ditch Android and will let others know how crappy it is, though ICS/JB are much, much better.
This also shows the problems with shoddy hardware, as on X2, but that is beside the point. So, my point is, crappy phones stuck on old versions of Android such as the X2, cause problems to android users, developers and the whole ecosystem as it fragments it and keeps the ecosystem from being at its best. Imagine if at least 50% of the phones were on ICS now... It will make app development streamlined and provide valuable updates and bug fixes to numerous phones.

I agree that fragmentation is an issue, but that is the carriers an/or phone companies fault for not releasing the updates or doing it. The average person should do a little reading into whatever they own, be it a phone or whatever. Even with the fragmentation, we are still up to over 1 million activations per day. If we were to loose a few people to other operating systems, we still come out on top.
Most of the people I meet with an Android phone, don't complain about updates or apps not working on their phone. they are just happy to have to the phone I have general. If they want the update, they are more willing to do research, just like how we did. To me app development seems just fine, I don't see any issues with it but that is just me.
Not too long ago, we talked about how Sony was continuing its AOSP efforts on … more
