Default Just bought an Xperia Play (CDMA) -- Some questions

-So I found out I have to unlock the bootloader, and you have to pay to unlock the CDMA version, correct? No free method?

-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5YvVhGvOJQk">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5YvVhGvOJQk" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="350">
Does this method work? Would I still be able to unlock the bootloader if I did this?

-What exactly are the benefits of unlocking the bootloader anyway?

--According to the unlock bootloader site, that method doesn't delete the DRM keys, which means what exactly?

--Are there no ways to flash the ROMs without a computer and flashtool, like other Android devices? Can you not use CWM to flash the ROMs?

Thanks for any help.

Forgot to check the "this is a question" box. Apologies.

Also, I just want to have root, remove some built-in apps, get ICS and overclock. Will I need to unlock the bootloader for that?

Well... I got the bootloader unlocked and installed Doom's kernel. Now, are there any good ICS ROMs out there without any loss in functionality? I was going to check out that FreeXperia thing, but couldn't figure out which ROM to install.

Thanks for any help.

There are currently no Sony based ics roms available for r800x. There is cm9 but it does not fully support the touchpads on all games. There are lists under cm9 threads detailing what games work with touchpads. To my knowledge just about all gameloft games do not work with touchpads on cm9. Sorry I can't tell you more. I never bothered to flash a ics based rom as I game way too much to lose touchpads

Gotcha, so stock is the way to go? And there aren't any ways to flash ROMs without flashtool anyway, right?

I just wanted to get the PS Store and updated camera. Would there be any way to get those on stock?
Apologies for all the questions...

If you have an unlocked bootloader, you can use any ROM optimized for CDMA.

If you want to stay on Gingerbread, I would suggest to use either 2.3.3 Stock, CM7, or UK Firmware.

I would suggest moving to ICS, as CM9 just hit release candidate, and is incredibly stable.

CyanogenMod 9 is my personal favorite, but you can also try Gummy, CodenameAndroid, or AOKP.

Gameloft games DO NOT have touchpads on ICS, but you can blame Gameloft for that.
Current Devices:
Droid Razr M XT907 - Unlocked - Carbon 4.2.2
Xperia Play R800x - Unlocked - Xperia NXT Gaming - DooMKernel
Nexus 7 - Unlocked - CM10.1 Nightlies
Older Devices:
Kindle Fire - Rooted - Cyanogenmod 10
Droid X2 - Rooted - MIUIv4
Droid 2 - Rooted - LiquidICS

So it's only the gameloft games that don't have the touch pads? That works for me. But I thought the cyanogen rom was only for gsm? Might I ask for a link to the proper version please?
And psx games work fine on there, right?
Thanks again.

You can flash roms through CWM (clockworkmod), which is pre-installed on Doom's kernel. If you download a rom (make sure it's compatible with Doom's kernel), it will be in a .zip format. You have to put the .zip on your sd card (don't extract!), (re)boot your phone, and while it is rebooting it will buzz. Press the back button to get into CWM. Then do a factory reset and wipe both the cache and dalvik cache. Then go to install from sd card, find your .zip file and install it, and reboot (might take a while).
Devices:
Xperia Play, NXT light edition, rooted
Asus Transformer Prime, AndroWook Hairy Bean, rooted
HTC Sensation, CM10.1, rooted + S-Off
iPhone 4, iOs 7.0 Developer Preview, non-jailbroken

Checked your signature for the FreeXperia thing and I'm trying to figure out which to download. They have pretty vague names in the download folder. I know the GSM version of the Xperia Play is codenamed Zeus, but I can't find anything on the CDMA's codename. Which would I have to download?

Edit:
Nevermind; "Zeusc".

Now, CM9.0 or FXP? Everything works, aside for the touchpads in gameloft games on both ROMs, right? What would the benefits for either be?

Went with FXP. Now, is there any way to get that Xperia Play launcher back and/or use the PS Suite with the PS Store? Thanks again.
