Story for your amusement:
I did the same, early in my contract, no insurance... and looking at a 285 cancellation fee. So, borrowed the wife's old 3G for awhile. ..... I drove over it, yes drove over it. Pulverized I was barely able to recover the sim with needle nose pliers digging through the rubble that was once an iPhone. I was then down to a Samsung Eternity with a cracked screen (it took me a year and a half before I broke that one though)

Options:
Buy the Part: pay the 180-230 to replace/repair myself (saw the video, figured I'd screw up the PSA)
Repair: I got a quote for 285.
AT&T: add a line for 10 bucks (240 for the term of the contract plus whatever phone you buy, 100 est.) This would push me to 340-400 by the time you include taxes and other fees
Option Three: Called Samsung....150 bucks to repair. Just got the phone back and I updated to 4.0.3 They even replaced the front perimeter bezel that had a couple light dings. Took a week and a half, but they were very easy to deal with and helpful.

Now I need to find a case, but considering selling and getting a rugged phone for just call text and a tablet with a data plan.

I will never forgo insurance again. Brother-in-law only had two words for me: "LAND LINE"
LOL... Your brother in law might be right.

That's not a bad price from Samsung. Nice touch for repairing the bezel too.

called Samsung and just sent it in. we'll see what happens. if they try to charge me i'm going to fight it since it died while it was in my POCKET. hasn't ever been dropped or seen any physical damage ever. my donor iPhone 3gs takes a BEATING, has been dropped a million times (by my GF) and still works 100%
