Im having the same issue and it has been like that for a while( i use a different phone now but still want this one to work) so im not sure what i did wrong. I updated to a different and more recent rom(icysnap) but the problem still continues.
What can i do to fix this?

No one? I would really like to fix the phone without sending it to LG for repair

I finally managed to make the phone recognize the sim card and it was a software issue.
In case you are facing the same problem, here is what i did: I dial the code to the "secret menu" from lg and its one that i posted before in other thread some time ago - 3845#*500# - and then selected factory reset and it does a really full reset.
NOTE: I had some problems first with the costum rom i was using because it was acepting the code and i had to change to other one. So my advice is that this doesn't work on the rom you are using, try flashing a different one and the more stock rom similar possible or one that wasn't completely changed.

HI all.
my LGP500 was bricked then i follow instruction of this forum and somehow i unbricked it. ( used both KDZ -with v20d.00.kdz files & LGMDP- with P500-v20G-baseband )
but now i am ended with no GSM. its says no SIM Card.... in setting under wireless & network, its always airplane mode selected (though flight symbol doesnt show on home menu) even mobile network menu is not active....
i checked my secret menu and it shows :
FIRMWARE VERSION : 2.3.3
BASEBAND VERSION : AMSS6150
SW VERSION : LG-P500-V20D
HW VERSION : : P500_REV_1_1
FACTORY VERSION : LGP500AT-00-V20D-IND-XX-APR-25-2012

Please help me...what should i do now ?

Try factory reset directly from the secret code : 3845#*500#
