First evo screen took 2 years to break. Many drops and spills. 2nd screen was when phone slid out of pocket and hit asphalt on bottom corner taking chunk out of screen. 3rd screen cracked somewhere inbetween when i put it in pocket to time i took it out 5 mins later. Still dunno how the f it happened. Those where all in last 2 months. Now im just dealing with cracks until ltevo release.

I am an EMT it's a fast paced huge stress job I got my EVO on launch and got an otterbox for it that day broke the otter box in another it three months (very cheaply made) found this website goballistic.com and got the HC ballistic case and I have to say the last 20 plus months with this phone have been hell oh have dropped kicked thrown hit slammed fell out of the bed of a moving truck ran over by a duramax 5500 ambulance then ran over it with my effin car. This phone has been hit so hard the camera comes dislodged and has to be pushed back in to work. You take my phone out of the case it's in and there is one scratch on the top right corner of the casing not the glass where the otterbox defender failed the day I got rid of it. So In my experience ballistic HC case is head and shoulders over any case out there.

I've had my Evo for over a year and never had a screen protector. No scratches still pretty good screen plus I take good care of my things.

I don't use and cases or covers. I don't have any screen scratches and the phone is in nearly perfect condition. I've owned it for a year.

I have dropped mine twice. once I bumped arms with someone in a store. Tried to break the phones fall with my foot and wound up booting it 6-7 feet and cracked the screen. got it replaced for about 60 bucks. then another time dropped it from my lap getting out of car. no break no case either time For what it is worth the screen is not fragile by any means

Default Replacing digitizer is easier with screen protector on

I've had mine for a couple of years without a case but with a screen protector. I've dropped it numerous times without any issues but it finally landed face down on a small pebble the other day and spider-cracked the screen into a few dozen pieces. The main benefit of the screen protector was that it allowed me to continue to use the phone while I was waiting for the replacement digitizer to arrive. I was frankly amazed that the phone continued to function flawlessly with the glass broken into so many pieces.

Take a chance and attempt the repair yourself.
I got a replacement digitizer on Amazon for <$9, bought a roll of the 2mm double-sided tape to stick the new screen on for ~$5, got the required Torx tool at my local Lowe's Home Improvement store for <$10 and used a guitar pick as a pry tool to remove the old glass.
There is a YouTube video that shows step-by-step instructions for how to take it apart and remove the old glass. The main issue with that video is it shows how to remove an intact glass, which obviously no one replacing the digitizer would have. I heated up my cracked screen with a hair dryer and slid the guitar pick under the glass right where the notch is for the ear speaker then worked my way slowly around the entire broken glass until it lifted out. There is a plastic layer on the underside of the digitizer with holds all the glass shards in place so that was a real plus. My phone works just like new and I'm happy as a bivalvle. Go For It!!

DONATE TO ME
I just use cheap dollar protectors on mine and my dad does not use any on his and the plastic of the protector scratches more then his screen.

His screen never scratched the whole time he had the phone (until it fell off hit belt clip on a motorcycle and got run over by a car) so just use the otterbox if it comes with the built in screen protector it does for a reason
If I helped please hit the thanks!
