As far as I am concerned, there is only one stable kernel for the SK4G and that is the stock KG2 kernal. I wish someone would make a custom KG2 kernal that works.
Here is a list of kernals that sometimes reboot or totally lockup... rarely at total random, occasionally when using any GPS app, and regularly when using the latest Google Maps (especially for turn-by-turn Navigation):
KD1/KD2 stock - Used when I first got the phone, it would reboot sometimes, stock, with an old GMaps.
KD1/KD2 with Bali 2.1/2.2 - Used with many roms a year ago. About same as stock.
KG1 - Cannot find ROM, don't care since KG2 works.
KG2 with Bali - Cannot find compatible version of Bali to test with.
KJ2 stock - Not 100% tested, but I believe it has the bug.
KJ2 /w NXD kernal - Used with MANY roms over the last year. Worse than stock.
...and then I tried an ODIN of:
KG2 stock - STABLE! Sometimes locks up for up to 60 seconds. Has NEVER rebooted or locked up without recovering within 60 seconds.
I then flashed KJ2-rooted-deODEX.zip, and then NXD kernal. It was crashy again, so I am now ODINed back to KG2. I rooted it and have orange CWM (in 2 steps, stock recovery launches CWM) with Lag-Fix disabled (enabled = no boot). I removed about 50 apks from the system/app folder, and I setup SuperCharger V6. It is running very good this way, with 2-day battery life, but I do miss the custom framework with battery % and the reboot in the power-menu and such. Also I'm sure I could tweak things with a custom init.rc and such (if I knew what I was doing).
My final dream for this phone would just be to get a stable custom kernal (with keylogger removed) based on KG2 (or KJ2, if they can make it stable) and a custom ROM that has all the tweaks and ui-extras, but is otherwise stock with little to no theme-ing. What I have is close enough though I guess. I'm not going back to a crashy-rebooty-phone, not unless someone could get ICS/JB on it... then it might be worth living with a slightly unstable phone again.
