It's working great on my phone. The WiFi was so bad before (going dormant) that I was just using 3G, even at home. WiFi works well now. I suspected it wasn't hardware, because my brother has a Droid Pro that was on Gingerbread and its WiFi is solid. Now, so is mine.

For the really dense people (like me), this should be added to the instructions:
-----
6. Go to apply update.zip from SD Card

6 1/2. Press "Enter" key on keyboard.

7. Wait.
-----
Yeah, I was waiting and waiting before I finally figured out the "Enter" key thing.

Thanks "NoNameAtAll" for the software link and instructions.

I have found with this version that to enter recovery, you need to hit volume up/down at same time to enter recovery vs. pressing the @ button.

If so try to flash update.zip agian, if sucessful is adb debugging enabled?

If not then wait for activation to timeout it should give you access to your phone at that point.

Wait for a successful gingerbread only root exploit and remove sprint ware...

If still stuck without recovery you may need to wait untill a 2.3.5 sbf is leaked.... which might be a while

No, I can't. Only display error :

Bootloader
04.02
Err:A5,70,70,00,1F

MEM_MAP Blank
Service Req'd
Battery OK
OK to Program
Connect USB
Data Cable

I think it is a brick...
Do you have the Stock rom sbf 2.3.5 ?

(Sorry, my English is not well)

Your device is bricked untill a sbf is released. That is going to take some time to release as they are just closed beta testing this rom at motorola now. Its not even gone to sprint for approval, let alone sprint repair facilities.

Did anyone already found a way to avoid bypass activation on Gingerbraed Motorola XPRT? I live in Jakarta, of course outside the U. S.
Will it matter if I just upgrade to Gingerbread?

Any suggestions?

I think you have not rooted your phone yet.
1/ Root your phone using the SuperOneClick
h**p://androidforums.com/xprt-all-things-root/352413-rooting-your-motorola-xprt.html (If you installed Motorola driver, bypass step 5+6)
2/ Use Root Explorer to navigate to system/app folder
3/ Click "Mount R/W" to mount the folder to Read/Write
4/ Rename (or Delete) SprintOMADMConnMOPlugin.apk and
SprintOMADMConnMoPlugin.odex
5/ Click "Mount R/O" to remount the folder as Read Only
6/ Reboot the phone

If you update 2.3.5 you can't root to bypass activation but you can bypass by handmade

1/ Airplane mode on
2/ Turn off your phone
3/ Turn on your phone
4/ Airplane mode off

Hey, I think I'm gonna get the Boost release of this phone.

Any advice on what to do in terms of mods?

(total newbie)

As far as Gingerbread goes, it's already on the Boost XPRT.

I got asked to install GB on the Motorola Testers Feedback Network as part of the final testing. The said that if I wasn't on the latest official Froyo version and unrooted, I couldn't participate. Should we assume that this version is the one they are releasing? If I have already installed it and they somehow update it in the meantime, I still should be able to upgrade, right?

As for this version, it is pretty good. Not many problems, not a single reboot yet. One thing is that I have been in a roaming zone for the past two days and it keeps on reverting back to Sprint only network from roaming and I get the roaming warnings even though I check the "don't ask again" boxes.
