Question OK, so I admit I am a noob

I have just rooted my phone and backed up the current rom to sd with ROM Mgr.

Now I am preparing to look for a suitable custom ROM, but I am unclear about what else I need to do to prepare if anything. Last time I flashed was with Samsung Vibrant which was way too easy compared to the Sensation 4g.

So questions abound; Do I need s-off and how do I know if I have that? I can't find my bootloader number probably b/c I unlocked it at HTC -correct?

So, where am I in terms of progress moving forward and does any of this make sense to the masses?

Thanks for assistance.

if you are currently running ICS ..then SOFF is not mandatory for flashing CUSTOM ROMS

now first to check you have SOFF or not
go to bootloader and check this line "PYRAMID PVT SHIP S-OFF RL" if S-OFF is there then you are SOFF

if you are S-ON then you will have this line "PYRAMID PVT SHIP S-ON RL"

now based on your post
im assuming that you have unlocked bootloader, root(which you did it using my tool) and ROM manager (means you have CWM recovery )

so now you have all the prerequisites for flashing a ROM

so follow this below guide to letter to HAVE custom ROM with S-ON
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1631861

(see in the process you need to change recovery to 4EXT which wont run with ROM manager ..as it has separate app (4EXT controller) ...but 4EXT will do a lot of good in your case )

Device Details: HTC sensation 4G, Inspiration Rom + default bricked kernel

Default firmware update

So I need a little verification. I bought a used Sensation 4g that had GB 2.3.3 on it. The hboot was 1.17 so I revolutionary to S-OFF, and permanent root it. Now I want to put ICS InsertCoin Evolution 2.3 ROm on, but understand I need to upgrade the firmware to 3.12 or greater. If I understand this correctly, I can just download the PG58IMG.zip file that is available on the InsertCoin website and flash. I tried this, and all indications on the phone said it completed successfully, but I still see hboot version 1.17, which I beleive is not what it should be.

What am I doing wrong?

Yes, the PG58IMG file was picked up right away. I vol+ to accept it and it did its stuff. I then removed the PG58IMG file from the sd card and can get into bootloader, but it still shows hboot 1.17.0011. I am scared to flash a ICS ROM since it isn't showing me a hboot different than what was on it with GB (which is still on the phone now).
