Storage OH yeah

OK, so the rumour mill is in full effect and there seems to be conflicting info wherever you look, but the recent iFixit teardown indicates that there is a USB to HDMI cable included with the tablet.

look here: http://guide-images.ifixit.net/igi/K...vHZdFWEGF.huge
we have 14 free pins and an hdmi data connection requires only 12 wires + 5v + grnd.
i'm looking for someone who can do some simple tests on the unused pins.
when i will have the nexus 7 i'll do it by myself at uni but maybe someone who have the I/O version now could do something meantime.
Looking at the way the ground planes are split leading up to the connector, and that the USB signals are right in the middle (look at the closeup of the expansion flex pcb), I think there are more pins dedicated to power, ground, and audio than the minimum. My guess is ground every other pin between the audio lines to avoid crosstalk. Though the are extra traces leading up to the audio half of the connector from what looks an integrating network for a sigma-delta DAC. Maybe the audio pairs are running differentially?!

Anyway, I now think HDMI isn't on that connector. And I still think the J1 header is JTAG since there are no mounting ear pads for an FPC or inter-board press fit.

My bet at the moment is that the I/O demo models had a different PCB altogether with the HDMI connector directly mounted on the PCB. More clues to this are a lack of mounting holes in the subframe for a separate connector board like there are for the headphone and USB jacks. Also the connector base is coplanar with the PCB and not offset like USB and audio. i.e. if the HDMI were on a separate PCB it wouldn't need that weird hump in the back of the case 'cause it could sit closer to the LCD.

I still think there is a high chance that CON3 is hdmi. Even the PCB layout fits (lots of differential pairs). edit: CON3 is above the rectangle hole.

How many people really need Hdmi out? I would like to hear more on a ext sd project, but even if you manage to solder one on, do we have proper software to read it?

Asus could have some answers for us if someone can contact the engineers.

Nexus 7, Stock Rooted 4.2.2

If anyone can point me to where I can get a connector to solder on, I'll give it a go. (My Nexus 7 has a broken screen, so might as well give it a go)

You have to try and measure there is not yet a solution you could do without that.

A defect mainboard would be nice, then you can desolder the Tegra 3 and check which points of the Tegra3 are connected to the exposed pins.

CON3? That's for the rear camera that it doesn't have.

It doesn't look possible without some sort of hardcore soldering if at all.
