I've used CleanGB with two phones and I steal wireless from my next door neighbor. She lives two concrete walls away from me and even with a crappy, easy to guess password and an ugly cat, I still manage to get great reception and high transfer speeds.

Have you tried kicking your router? What about a voodoo hex? Did you accidentally set up a Faraday cage in your house? Please don't tell me you're a paranoid person who blocks-out his windows with aluminum foil, because that can kill your wireless reception in some circumstances.

If you have tried all of those troubleshooting tips, perhaps I can interest you in the services of Sadie Lovington Nibblesworth. She is my house rabbit and will come over your house, bite your router's power cable, and then urinate on your shoes. She'll even tear your favourite fleece throw for free!

Think about it and get back to me.

Hoppingfully yours,

I don't even know what v6 is. Only ROM I've ever installed in CleanGB. I just wanted something as stable as possible and my due diligence led me to CGB.

I went stock to GB fairly recently when Sprint replaced my phone because of a problem with the slider. Now this one has a problem with the rear facing camera so who know if they'll give me another.

The problem with the wakelock I described is not new. I've had periods of several days at a time where my phone hates any charged battery and sucks it dead as fast as it can. The whole time my phone is running hot. Then the issue goes away and my phone is back to normal. No matter how many times I reboot, clear cache, etc. it doesn't help. It just disappears as mysteriously as it starts.

I suspect it may have something to do with my router having issues but I can't be sure. I can test that theory the next time this happens.

Can you explain what you mean by a different governor/scheduler combo?

Never heard of a wifi fix. Perhaps you are thinking of the GPS Fix?

He's talking about the V6 SuperCharger by zeppelinrox. Try it out. Very easy to use, and it offers a nice speed boost.

i would try another ROM. Experiment just a little. After all, that is half the fun of having the phone. I'd stick with GB for top ramen battery life. CM7 is nice. But you could also try one of the few remaining TW based ROM's. Mine and The People's ROMs have been updated very recently, and are very stable.

Try installing Voltage Control. At the top you will see "Governor" and "I/O Scheduler" at the top. He means try changing those settings. I recommend SIO for scheduler and ondemand or wheatley for governor.

In Voltage Control (download the app) there are a list of governors and I/o schedulers to choose from. Some like performance keep your CPU at higher speeds longer and others like ondemand drop down to conserve battery. As far as the schedulers I never played with any and use either sio or noop.

Is there any reason I would get better signal with the FC09 modem?

My situation is that I used to have a stable 2-3 bars inside my house, and another bar or so outside. But in the last 6-8 weeks sometimes I have zero bars standing outside in my nieghborhood. (no highrises or giant metal structures). In fact sometimes I cannot get Pandora to start--no data signal.

On the other hand, last weekend I tried to update my profile using the temporary FC09 ROM. It failed repeatedly as I only has 2 to zero bars standing outside in hopes of better signal. (You know it ALWAYS drops to zero bars when you try to update the profile or PRL.) I drove to another area of town where I had 4 bars and the profile update worked OK. I was doing the profile update in hopes of improving my signal. No difference in signal afterwards in the temp ROM or CGB.

So I think I answered my own question--and it is not the EL modem in CGB. But others are more knowledgeable and I hope for some insight.

I called Sprint. They did not fess up to any prblems in my area. They want me to bring them my phone to do updates and to check the hardware. Maybe they can fix my broken space key. I guess I will be doing a return to stock....
I didn't see any direct response to this, and I see something that should be clarified (I'm sure others have had the same misunderstanding - I had to double check it myself, before posting) - the FC09 temp boot still uses whatever modem you have installed in the main rom. The only way it could use the FC09 modem is if that is what you use normally. If the temp boot redirected *everything* then it would be worthless, because the prl that it updated would only be read when loading the temp-boot.. make sense? So instead, it only redirects the bare minimum to boot a different rom - the modem and the internal storage where the PRL is located are not among the redirected partitions because they can be used by any Epic rom without modification.

I don't know much about CleanGB, but I thought it was using a TW base (I could very well be wrong here) - I'm not sure what caused the disparity in signal strength, because that is usually seen when someone is temp-booting to update PRL for AOSP based roms (CM7/9, MIUI and similar). What I can say for certain, however, is that you saw that stronger signal with the same modem you use every day... so if you're still looking for a solution to the problem, at least you can eliminate one possibility from the list

The version numbers are only sequential because dates are sequential - the numbering is a code based on the build date. I can't recall the exact details, but I think F indicates the year, so all F modems are from '12. If I haven't mixed that part up, then C indicates the month of March, and I think the 09 at the end is a straight-forward day of the month. So FC09 is from March 9th of 2012...

It isn't important, but I like to be as well informed as possible - I'm sharing my knowledge for the benefit of others who feel the same way
"What is this?! When does this happen in the movie?!"

"Now, sir. You're looking at now - everything that's happening now, is happening now."

This is true. Samsung labelled there firmware and modems with the same date code even though they are independent of each other. As for signal strength, the Epic is ridiculously sensitive and Sprint signal strength is spotty. I can move ovrr 2 couch cushions and change 2 bars. So unless you have not moved an inch or changed the way you held the phone or atmospheric conditions don't put much into unless you have used it for a few days.

This is true . my epic does the same signal thing even on TPR, with the FC09 modem, I have tried all the other modems too and same same, so I stay with TPR and FC09 with whatever modem or signal booster apps that actually work, so far though I haven't found any that really work.
Samsung Galaxy SIII
Rooted, running TPR
