I have downloaded ubuntu. Downloaded while playing cs on server.
Will give some news soon.

Can I compile something if I run ubuntu from usb drive?

its better you install it with windows, if you downloaded the latest build then you can install it just like anyother software, just extract the iso and run the wubi.exe and follow the instructions

You can use a usb drive but it will be really slow.
The best thing is to install it into your hard disk. Defrag windows partitiin then boot the live cd run install and partition your hdd. You can use automatic partitioning but i prefer choosing advanced. Resize windows partition then create 3 partitions
First a 12GiB / partition type ext4 this partition is where ubuntu is installed. Then a big 40+GiB /home partition ext4, this is where you store your documents and in case ubuntu crashes and you have to reinstall everything is intact and a swap partition that should be as big as your ram for hibernate to work.

I am running windows 8.
My hd is almost full, there is not even a slightest chance to format any drive. My projects and everything is stored in it, most importantly my college applications.
I used usb to boot, startup takes a little longer but then it's like any other os. Shut down is fast. :eek:

P.S - Windows 8 is lot better than ubuntu in terms of ui.
