I have a siedo extended battery and use Juice Defender Ultimate (rooted, stock rom). I can go 2-3 between charges with 3g coverage. I do notice a faster drain when in 4g areas though.

im an IT tech so i use my phone all day every day. after uninstalling google maps like i stated in the OP i had 55 percent after a whole day at work and 40 percent at 1130 pm. i took it off the charger at 615 that morning. I highly encourage people to try it if you have bad batter life on your bolt. i used to use setcpu etc to control stuff but this works way better

Is there an alternative GPS app to use that won't keep opening?

I fixed my battery life issues just by disabling Verizon's gps service. For some reason it seems to always track you.

ya even when i disabled my gps i still had battery life issues although it helped. im telling you i uninstalled google maps and now at the end of my work day after heavy to moderate use i have 70 % left. its crazy i never dreamed i could do that from day 1 because of such horrible battery life

I removed maps and I get a little bit better battery life. I don't know if you are using wifi or not while you are working but that could have a lot to do with the increase you are seeing as well.

I noticed maps runs all the time but because I get decent battery life (CM7, Imo's184hz kernel undervolted even beyond extreme using incredicontrol) I never thought much of it. I did notice when I killed it it runs back immediately. I'm going to freeze it with titanium and see if it makes a difference.
