Maybe an update broke it then.

I know this is a little late, sorry if this information is too dated to be useful...
I just checked and I'm having the same issue with Chrome...and I'm running stock ICS (OTA update) except for being rooted, unlocked with CWM recovery and running ezterry's kernel. I think it's pretty safe to say it's a Chrome issue.
I've actually been very disappointed with Chrome's stability on Android. It's reasonably fast as a browser but the more I test, the more I'm convinced Dolphin HD is -- at least at this point in Chrome's development -- the superior product. The only thing Dolphin HD doesn't bring to the table is Chrome's Google bookmark sync. I invested in a "pro" Xmarks account and now all my browsers (Firefox primarily, IE and Dolphin HD) across all my platforms (PC, Mac and Android) all stay in sync bookmark-wise and most of the time I can open tabs from the other browsers/platforms. The one browser that I use that DOESN'T play nice with Xmarks? Yep, you guessed it: Chrome...which is why Chrome has become an Android-only choice for me, and even then only in a limited capacity.
Hopefully it'll stabilize, because I really want it to work like I think it should on Android. For that matter, I wish the Mozilla folks would get their act together and put out a small, fast mobile Firebox that natively supported PC plug-ins. Oh, and while I'm at it I'd also like a pony.
