Talking WOW!

Geeze... spent hours trying to unbrick this thing to no avail. HAD to create an account just to thank you!

Long story short: I bricked my phone when trying to go completely back to stock, from totally modded/hacked buttery goodness, in order to update to v21y. Aside from giving you a huge "" and virtual , I also wanted to say/reiterate some things for anyone else that might be in my same situation:
  • He really wasn't kidding... THIS DOES NOT WORK IN ANYTHING OTHER THAN WINDOWS XP! (I used "Virtual Box" so as to not have to dual boot).
  • I found out something interesting... after following this guide and bricking the phone (totally my own stupidity). I installed Windows XP in Virtual Box, and ran *your* guide, but used "V21Y_00.kdz" instead of "V21E_00.kdz". Instead of "CDMA", I set the "Type" to "3GQCT", and "Phone Mode" to "EMERGENCY".

Everything worked like a charm, and basically everything went down exactly like you said, except for the aforementioned changes to the steps (even the prompts / messages in the updater look the same).
  • ALSO: If you use Virtual Box and not something else (like VMWare, or whatever) I noticed that when the USB starts disconnecting, it won't reconnect to your virtual machine until you go to "Devices -> USB Devices ->" and click on your phone. Gotta do the same when plugging your phone in for the first time in "APX mode".

So you really gotta be on the ball and reconnect it to the VM quickly, before it times out and you have to start all over again (had to redo this guide a couple of times because I wasn't fast enough).

So your method basically ended up both unbricking my phone and installed the baseband upgrade I wanted!!! So CHEERS!

NVFlash ROM and then NVFlash CWM 5.0.20...then you will be able to access recovery and install whatever ROM you want to install...

I forgot to say thanks, I thought I bricked my phone for good and was ready to buy a new one some time back. I appreciate this, especially for the fact that at the time I didnt have the money to buy a new phone.
