Frozen a100

I've read the other threads and have seen where many have been helped. None of the suggestions worked for me unfortunately.
I was given an Acer a100 as a gift a few weeks ago. When I got it ICS was already on it. Just this morning, it froze up. when I turned it off and turned it back on it is stuck at the acer screen. I have tried every hard reboot I have tried including the volume button and the reset button. Nothing makes it do anything but show the acer screen. I did see the "fallen" android with the red x once, but I didn't do anything to make it show and it was gone almost as quickly as it showed up.

Is there anything I can do to fix this? Or is it time to say this device is dead. Thanks!

Besides hard reset, what other suggestions have you followed?

Have you tried:

Update.zip method?
Formatting your SD card to FAT32 on your PC?
Tried a different (2GB preferred) SD card, freshly formatted?
Double and triple check its is NOT update.zip.zip, or any other extension?
Double and triple check it is at the ROOT of the sd card? ie.
/apps
/DCIM
/randomfoldername
update.zip

Of course, if its freshly formatted (it is, right?) there will be ONLY update.zip, no folders at all.

If you tried all of this already, let us know and we can work on something else.
