For me binary update will go through only directly after installing busybox.

Thing is, the root instructions specifically mentioned something about not installing busybox because it will break some root apps. Are your root apps still working as expected?

Anyone willing to try, I created attached update cwm-zip file. Please install with cwm-recovery and let me know the results (my A511 is still bricked).

Regards,

Nika.

PS. I used the S300 (Iconia Smart) root install zip file, replaced the mount command, updated su, superuser and busybox on the S300 and replaced them in the zip...

@nikagl

First of all thank you for your work on A5xx, can you briefly describe what we can expect the package? In the package a working Clockwork Recovery is included (backup / restore)? Let me know if I can assist you in further developing

thank you very much!

Hi Rembold,

The root zip file needs to be installed using a custom recovery which allows installing zipfiles. On an A511 you cannot use any other method as the mempodroid exploit seems to have been fixed in those roms so there's no other way to get root

Be very, very, very careful with the CWM recovery provided in the other thread. Yes, you can use it to install zips, but... never use backup/restore and preferably do not use FOTA either. Both have caused bricks in the past weeks. I am quite sure you can use it to install the root zip though, I have not seen any issues with that!

Edit: I have also tried making a signed update.zip that can be installed through the stock recovery. For whatever reason, that didn't work in my case. I just do not have enough experience with that. I guess that should work as well as those update.zip files can also write system files and therefore can mount it. Probably the signing process I did needs to use specific keys which I do not have?

Regards,

Nika.

It is included, however superuser doesn't work. I have to receive manually and install superuser again from Google Play
