thanks for all the input guys.. i think we have narrowed it down.. perhaps using the laptop card reader was not the way to go... i have a new 2 gig card at the office and will format it in the am. install the file on the card with out a directory on it.. in other words only have the update.zip on it..

nothing else correct.

usmc2k,

I thought you might like to know that he finally got it...the problem was as you suggested..the file was being stored as update.zip.zip changing it to update.zip solved it.

up and ready to roll.. but phone is bricked.. just kidding... i appreciate the warnings and will not go into it any further..

i am getting linux for dummys.. any refrences on how to do this and test on pc first would be great

at first it was suppose to be simple and then it became a challenge. which was accomplished only with the help on you guys here. and my thanks to you guys and the guys who have actually wrote the updates and other files.

here is what i think was the problem..

1. first suspect is the tranfer and the file itself. i eventually used the one the was suggested on page 10 or so that is listed in the other forum group

2. second suspect: my cards.. one may have been to small or needed to be reformated. it only worked when i reformatted a 1 g that came with the phone

3. third suspect: the name given to the file.. i gave the update file the name "update.zip" which did not work. we then with the help of stericson used emulator which revealed that it was reading as "update.zip.zip" so we renamed it simply "update" which was read as "update.zip"

then we had success....

the reason i started this was so i can save my apps to an sd card.. will i be traveling in dangerous waters when i try to do that... is there an app that does it ?

thanks again to all of you ... especially stericson for walking me through this and the emulator..

final question.. when we were workig with the emulator.. is that where i could have bricked the phone.. or is it when you enter "su" and then work with it.. i realize i may be sounding stupid to say the least .. but then again i have not read linux for dummy's yet..

thanks again to all
