Really? What did you search for? I found various things quite quickly, e.g:

http://www.xda-developers.com/androi...msung-devices/

which explains what is in EFS.

So what I see in /efs is not really the efs partition that needs backed up? So what is in that partition for us?

At the moment it is uncertain if kTool - or any other app for that matter! - will ever be able to support backing up the EFS on the US variants of the S3 (and some also Qualcomm based variants of the S2)!

The EFS is not where we expect it (some partition, usually mounted to /efs), nor could it be proven that it's hidden anywhere on any of the block devices yet - i.e. dumping all /dev/block/mmcblk0p* would not contain a copy of the EFS to later on restore lost / corrupted IMEIs.

It is some play place else, for now no one knows where and even less know how to access it there.

So, right now, there is unfortunately no way of updating kTool to fully support those devices, esp. as I don't want to leave people with false hope that later will turn out not to be working.

As soon as this thing has been figured out, you can COUNT on kTool being updated - the base for supporting different models is there by now (even close to get it fully compatible for the original Galaxy S I9000) - we just need to figure this issue out.

*Meow!*
Sorry to impose but as this is important information, the same thing goes for anyone who has used my Windows based application too, EFS Pro. As soon as its figured out I too will update my application aswell.

Peace Out!

Just realized your app had been updated to support the GN. Hadn't seen you around for a while. Many GN people get borked EFS as well. Before I realized this thread had been updated, i.e. 4 minutes ago () I posted here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...4#post29404434

Thanks.

Nice post there, thanks

Yah, life went a bit rolercoaster, but things are calmned down again and are about 5000% better than before

About the GN support, the feedback I got so far was positive but if anyone finds anything that needs fixing or tweaking, do tell

Hi HellcatDroid
Looks like a great app
I have a SGS2 i9100T on Testra. I used Samsung Kies and applied the recommended Firmware upgraded which was V4.0.3
kernel version: 3.0.15-I9100TDVLP4-CL345054
I have downloaded kTool V1.56 When I start the app I get the error [ERR_OERR] and below (no root access)

I was trying to use this app as a way obtain root.
Do you have any thoughts on this

cheers

Yep.
However it will go down a bit to ninetysomething over time and reboots - but that's perfectly normal.

This is not an app to perform the root on your device - use a root kernel for that.
This app is meant to be used once you are successfully rooted.
