The other day I updated from Opera 10 beta 2 to beta 3 using ninja duck's (with flashlite included). It erased my prior bookmarks, so I have to start all aver again.

Default we sure?

hey pcash, maybe its my version but, I think its folder "4" for mine. I deleted and re-installed opera 10. before adding bookmarks there was only folders 1,2,6 and 8. After I added 2 bookmarks, folder 4 appeared. took that all.dat file and renamed it all.txt. I opened it and amongst the gibberish, were the bookmarks and their names!. im thinking one might be the history? well, ill investigate a lil more

yup. folder 4 is the history.

No. Because the MortScript could not work with non-ascii files, it works only with text/ini files.

WARNING!!

This will not work for everybody!!!

Check into things before you use the all.dat file from folder '2' as your backup option. I saved it, and then uninstalled Opera, so i could install it to my storage card fresh, rather than moving it. I replaced all.dat in new location, and ALL my bookmarks are gone...and I had a lot. I'm kicking myself for not verifying before the uninstall...so all versions or devices or something are not the same...I will post when I find what happened and how to avoid...just wanted to get the warning out there.

So copying all.dat to my laptop and renaming to a .txt file shows that it does contain my bookmarks amongst the garbbled characters. Opera just doesn't use the data. Everytime I run Opera it replaces with a fresh all.dat file of 500b. The only difference is the install location...same version from the same original cab file. Any ideas how to force Opera to use the data in old file rather than replacing it with empty new one??

Another side note which I'm sure is obvious to everyone but changing that dat file in anyway while in the text editor makes opera crash forcing a reset...followed by over 25 error messages to go through upon boot up....so I would recommend not trying it as I foolishly did!

There are several number-folder's under \datastorage\ (e.g, "4", "8") in addition to "2" that contain a file called "all.dat". Do these not pertain to bookmarks, too?
If not, anybody know what they do pertain to? Just wondering if I should back-up/restore them, too.
Thanks.
Well \Program Files\Opera Mobile 10\profile\datastorage\4\all.dat is the data for the speed dials (the 3 x 3 grid of 9 assignable quick links on the "start" page) on mine.
