but we are not alone, new models arrive and share the same challenge, so although o4x community do not get the attention we might be lucky the other new models do get the attention and new exploits are found. linux is not as perfect as it looks right now

i think we have to go deeper into this, has anyone any information how we can read firmware or parts of it from the phone?

there was a tool for another lg phone, cant remember the name where you are able to do such things in lg download mode.....

The other problem is availability of the phone. Its currently only available in mainland Europe afaik.

We will get root. Even the popular HTC Sensation took some time to crack the bootloader so it was flashable.

I'm trying things whenever I can, scouring the lg servers for old firmware versions. We just need a tiny crack to stick our prying tools into.

As you say, the more phones like this which come out, and the wider availability will increase the user base and our chances of someone finding root.

don't waste time on it, if you mean links to the server we find the others on.

i made a shell script running from v07.00 -> V07.09 upto v11.09 for p880. and only found the preview of v10d but required logins (before it was official)
and i did this for many countries as well (easy when first the script works)

Yeah, I couldnt find any either, it was just one example of things we have all tried.

I'm going to take another look into the backup system later today too. The backup app on the phone clearly has root access with everything it is able to backup.

Perhaps we can slip the required files into the backup and then restore it?

I have yet to get my phone into any of the boot modes either, Ive tried several times, it always wants to boot normally.

There seems to be no way to directly modify those backup files, as Sprite Mobile hasn't released a viewer/editor, and neither have i found any user-made. But maybe if you restore a backup from a rooted phone? Are our two rooted sources still around?
