I just updated a easier way and worked fine.
Here the description.
Maybe some points are not necessary but this is how I tried.
- Download relockPrevent.xap and install on phone
- Add in the %systemroot%/system32/drivers/etc/hosts: 192.168.1.1 developerservices.windowsphone...
- Turn on Airplane mode on your phone
- Turn off WiFi on your phone
- Update your phone with Zune
- If your phone restarts to install the update, disconnect your PC from Internet
- after update is installed, run relockPrevent.xap which is already installed an the phone

Now you can use your phone.
You have the update and it is still unlocked.
Yeah, I saw that comment and that's what I would try. However, doesn't editing the hosts file stop Zune from "calling" Microsoft and wouldn't it therefore prevent the Zune update? I guess you won't know until you try.

I changed settings HKLM\System\Platform\DeviceTargetingInfo\MobileOpe rator from ATT-US to ROG-CA and clicked on update in Zune. No it did not this time . It says my phone is update to date.

Looks like I have to wait for Official update this time.

When microsoft releases 7.8 update, Will that include updates from Tango? .. Sorry if it looks like a dumb question

Honestly if I were you I'd just do the manual CAB update if you really want to update to Tango. Directions are in the link I provided above.

When 7.8 eventually it should include the Tango fixes but it will be coming straight from MS so I'm not sure about manufacturer specific firmware updates being included.

For the Samsung Focus 1 on AT&T, that meant changing ATT-US to ROG-CA (for Rogers, a Canadian carrier). Once you have you valid registry key entered, pop your phone into Zune, and check for updates. After you update your device, be sure to change the registry back to the initial value, to assure that you receive any targeted updates in the future."

Above lifted from this website
I don't know what I did but now neither I am able to set the mobile operator to ROG-CA nor to ATT-US (original)
I tried to clear value then tapped Read it says GetString:
then I tried to put ROG-CA next to GetString: then i restarted the phone and again went to samsung registry and checked the mobile operator
when i tapped Read it says GetString: GetString:

Please help me

I updated my Focus to Tango, via the registry edit to Rogers, but I've noticed there's a bug with the keyboard. As soon as text message is sent the keyboard disappears, similar to the mango bug. The problem leaves for a while, even when the phone is restarted, only to appear again. I reverted my phone back to 8107 and the problem has disappeared, so I figured it's a tango issue. Has anyone had this problem?

I dont update to Tango. If ATT dont send the official update, i dont update, i read a loooots of errors with Rogers update on Focus.
There is no safe way to update Focus on ATT, simply.

Sorry but this is simply incorrect. It is quite feasible and quite safe to update your Focus to Tango via the cab send method. I did mine and kept it developer unlocked with root access and didn't have a single problem.

If you're having issues after updating this way then you did something wrong. Most commonly people are not including all the language packs for each stage of the update.

Really, just go and check the thread in the WP7 dev forum. Its pretty self explanatory.

DONATE TO ME
I update my focus Rev 1.3 via registry mod and I didn't find enything wrong. All works fine. I've noticed that there is a greater battery performance in Tango. Yesterday at noon, the phone has 13% of battery and this morning the phone shows 9% of battery (with BT enabled!).
