First thing to do is delete the system apps or disable the ones you don't need, such as I don't use an exchange server and prefer Gmail over the stock email app, I don't use gtalk etc etc....
The first app I always install is llama simply because I don't have an unlimited data plan and I use it to turn off things like gps, sync, wifi and data when the screen is off, saves data and juice.
Then an app such as autostarts to stop things from auto starting themselves, as I don't see the point of having apps running whenever they want which I only use once every blue moon.
Next is rescan media root, it seems to me there's something wrong with how the system scans media and for me this seemed to be causing massive battery drain so it's a small price to pay for having some extra battery life.
Better battery stats obviously to identify problem apps etc etc, it speaks for itself really.......
Remember though these apps will only have an effect if you put the phone down. If your a heavy user like myself don't expect to get any extra life and think yourself lucky if you get 5 hrs + from a full battery which I very rarely do on any rom. The only reason I noticed that I had next to no battery drain for six hours was because I fell asleep before plugging my charger in. I'm on the stock cm kernel as I have noticed in the short 3 weeks I've been on an s2 that more features doesn't always mean it's better. Yeah it's good to say I can dual boot with this kernel or that one but I'm yet to find a kernel other than this cm one which doesn't make my battery jump through hoops trying to figure just how much life it has. A simple reboot on other kernels can lose me anything from 1%-99% forcing me to reset the fuel guage in ex tweaks which sometimes makes it even worse and I'm yet to experience anything like that on cm.
The best tip for battery life if you're a heavy user is to buy a spare battery and an external charger.
