Question Introduction + One S memory size?

Hi

I've been a huge fan of my Google Nexus One, but T-Mobile never played fair with it, and after finding myself literally stranded (bad idea to rely on the Navigation tool) because their network engineers kept cutting my data, I decided it was time enough to give up and go mainstream.

So a week ago or so I mustered the courage to walk into one of the disgusting neon-pink Tmo stores and look at their phones. Luckily, I was due for an upgrade, and was able to sell my Nexus One on CL for the same price as a brand new One S... Bye Nexus

Anyway, I got it activated and working yesterday, and I've been pleasantly surprised by the phone, I find it odd that my carrier would offer an actual, nice, android phone.

My biggest peeve is that the One S doesn't support external storage, like a MicroSD. When I asked the teenager at the puke-pink store, she told me it wouldn't be a problem, because the One S already has 2Gigs of RAM and 16Gigs of internal storage. "And 16 Gigabytes is a lot of space" I was told, which is true.

Except the phone doesn't have 16 Gigs of storage, is barely has 9.6 Gigs. I can understand 15-point-something gigs, heck I can understand 14-point-something gigs due to the phone using it, but 6 missing Gigabytes? That a lot less space than I was counting on..

Do the phones just come with 10 Gigs of internal storage, or does the stock Sense/Android stuff take up SIX WHOLE GIGABYTES? (cheating IMHO to advertise as though it isn't)..

Sorry to rant, I love this new phone otherwise and I'm still glad I went with HTC over the Samsung S3

Thanks!,

<edit>
I'm an idiot, I totally missed the HELP THREAD. If someone feels this needs to be posted there instead, please tell me.

It's not that Sense takes up 6GB, it's that the flash is partitioned such that sectors such as /data take several GB even if empty. I guess the rule with this phone is never install apps to "SD", just keep them all on internal storage to maintain that full 10GB for your files.

The total storage is 16G.
10G is 'for you' and acts as the SD card would.
The other 6G is apps, app data, cache, radio, hboot, sbl, recovery, etc..
It does get 25G of dropbox, but that's not really as good as local storage.

Also, it has 1G, not 2G of RAM.

Basically, it means that you can't carry your media collection around on your phone, but it is still enough to carry a couple of albums, a movie, and take lots of pictures.

With this restriction, it is a very nice piece of equipment. Gorgeous body, bright and saturated screen, very snappy.
Enjoy!

Okay, that makes more sense, and if installing apps doesn't cut into the 10GB very much, I'll be happy. I guess that was another thing with the N1, I always had the ram and internal storage maxed out.

..I feel pretty cheated by what they told me at the store I literally watched this lady "look it up" on a computer and tell me that 2G and 16G were the specks.. Oh well

Yeah, I'm really digging how similar it is to the N1 shell: not plastic-y

Thanks for clearing that up for me guys, I really appreciate it!

I think I'll give stock a few days to grow on me, and then play around with rooting and installing MIUI
