Yes. It's actually very simple. I recommend picking NTAG straight off the bat. They hold a good amount, are rewritable, and are newer type so they scan faster (I read a general info, scientific-type website that rated them at 9 scanning speed vs 7 for the average tag as a total ballbark idea of the improvement). If you need to hold lots of info like a business card with a picture and lots of details use a 1K chip, they hold more. Lastly you can choose the thicker protected tags if you will be using them on metal surfaces, which will interfere with your **** if you don't use protected PVC tags. You can ignore the other tag types, they are inferior to NTAGs but have some niche uses like being more lightweight (its a freaking sticker, its light already).

New to the forum, please hit thanks button if I helped you guys out

Here's my issue with NFC Task Launcher:

I've set it up so that when I get in my car it turns on GPS. NFCTL tells me that I need to make it a system app and reboot for that to work. That's fine. It works.

The next day when I install the next version of Jelly Bean (CM10) NFCTL is gone. Since it's a system app I'm assuming that CyanogenMod has erased it and when the new ROM is flashed. I can't tell you how many times I installed NFCTL before I figured this out. Also, there seems to be no way to backup and restore via Titanium Backup.

So, I've given up on having the ability to turn on/off GPS using NFCTL.

Am I missing something here? Is there a better way to do this?

I have tags all over my home and work place.

I have a home and away tag by the door at home to toggle networks (blue tooth on, WiFi off. ) and volumes.

One of my work tags is a idea that I got from here. To write an event into my calendar when I start work but I also use it to turn off my bluetooth and turn back on my WiFi. This will also set a timer to move my car due to timed parking

I have another at work to turn WiFi on and off. Because I work at a shopping center the WiFi reaches the shop but is a weak signal. Which is why I have the tag to scan as I walk out.

I have done some playing around with Tasker to get my bed time tag work the way I want.

As my signature suggests I have a HTC One XL and my notifications volume is the same as my ringer volume.

So what i have done is when I scan the tag it does the usual turn brightness to 0, volume to 0. What I have done is made a profile that gets switched on with the scan of the tag.

The profile will on the event of getting a phone call from any contact will max my ring volume.

On tap 2 of the tag it will reverse the settings and disable the profile

Using it as a system app, you could drop it in the zip in system/app before you install the ROM

this could be useful... could you provide the steps on how to set this up?

Thanks!

is there a way to disable the swipe to unlock using only NFC launcher? (so i can hit the power button and be right at my home screen)
i know it can be done with Tasker and Secure Settings but want to do it with minimal steps.

I've set up a few tags, but would love to find more uses :P

I have one tag on each side of my door - when I leave Tasker turns off wifi, enables 4G, and says "Have a nice day Jens". When I come back, it turns WiFi on, 4G off, and sets media/notifications/volume to loudest, vibrate on, and says "Welcome home Jens". (corny, but it puts a huge smile on my face).

I also have an NFC keychain that I carry around - if I go into class or a meeting or a movie I tap the keychain and it turns my phone onto silent. Tap it again and it puts everything back to the loudest setting.

If I end up dating someone (lol, this idea will never get used) when I tap the tag near my bed that does waking up stuff (volume back up, launches Currents) I'd have it send a text to my significant other saying "Good morning "

The most annoying thing is having to unlock my phone before being able to use NFC -_-
