I realize that's what was said but I am not seeing it after trying it three times...

I double checked with root checker and no go...

yeah it looks like i got boned too.. trying to "check for updates" does infact check for updates and .. well updates. i've left the "waiting for reboot" as the phone is applying the OTA. going to wait and see what it does. probably gets denied.

EDIT: denied. it now will not allow me to check for updates for another 23 hours and 59 minutes.

So can anyone give clear instructions on how to root 1.85
Some say let it download and run the script before it finishes, is this the case?
I'm about to test this out on my father's phone

Some people on another thread told me that they thought something had got wrong when I rooted and that was why I couldn't flash any roms. They said I could fix it by "running through some of those root steps again." So when I asked "how can I run through the root steps again?" someone else told me to go here. So how can I run through the root steps again? Should I just rerun the root.bat?

Found a clear cut method to root those who are still on the 1.85 update!!!!!!!!

1. Factory reset... I know it sucks but rooting has its costs
2. Run through setup and enable USB debugging
3. Run the root script and check for updates (it starts to check but the script kicks in)
It may fail the first time but just let it reboot and try again
If it doesn't work and it starts downloading the update then change your date with the root script running, it will give you and error about the update server and the root script will take over

fwiw, that's exactly what I kept getting every time I tried using one of the 'one-click' rooting methods. (I think there's a couple out there)

most didn't work no matter how many times i tried - I would get exactly what you put above. others would appear to work, but a check with a root-checker app said this was not the case.

so I found another post that had manual instructions (check one of my posts earlier in this thread for a link). this one worked the first time.

keep in mind that I rooted my phone before the 2.20 update was available... but if it's still unavailable to you right now there may be a chance for you to gain root

At this point the OTA has been run so I am going to have to wait and hopefully someone will find a root method for 2.20...

Thanks everyone!!!!

So has anyone successfully rooted 1.85 (using this method) since 2.20 OTA notification showed up?
Are you new to XDA?
Did someone help you? Did they answer your question? If so, THANK THEM!
