Yeah, you see a lot of them, especially on DSs here (all the kids have them), I've never heard the name in English though. I don't suppose that the word "tether line" encompasses both the strap, and the little charm that dangles from most non-smartphones (see included picture).

Where I live, we just call them "Phone Charms" ... There's a store in the mall here that sells them. They even have ones that change color or move inside a little snowglobe type thing when you get a call. You pair them to the phone via BT, for the moving and light up ones.

I've been contemplating this for a week or so now. I have a best buy giftcard that came along for the ride with my Ion. It would pay for a case. BestBuy, AT&T or any other local store does not carry a case yet. Well, AT&T had one that I didn't care for at all. Part of what attracted me to this phone was its sleek looks and metal back. I'm getting used to the no-case action. I mean, the Incipio Featherweight would probably be my case of choice and I'm not even sure that would protect from a drop any more than no case at all. So for now I'm leaning towards using that giftcard for something else. Maybe a bigger sim card. Maybe a couple CDs.

I bought a vertical leather holster type case on eBay for $11 shipped. I believe the brand is Cellet, black leather outside, natural on the inside. It has a snap belt-loop (that isn't all that secure, a moderate bump will cause it to unsnap), a detachable clip and a magnetic closure for the flap. It was about 1/8" to small for the the flap to close and get complete magnetic contact. It is leather and has stretched out a bit, now closing with ease.

I decided on the holster for a few reasons, one because I started tucking my shirt in, LOL, but mostly because I like the naked feel of the phone.
